What to Know

Critics Consensus

The feminist themes of Roar don't carry smoothly across some installments, but the sheer amount of talent on hand comes through loud and clear.

Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com Whether you crave the catharsis of an abusive boyfriend being carted off by Animal Control, or the rush of solving your own murder ... "Roar" has enough darkly comic delights to make you shout. Apr 24, 2022 Full Review Jenna Scherer Rolling Stone Roar has built a daring experiment, bringing in a diverse group of female writing, directing, and acting heavyweights -- which makes the series almost fascinating in its failure to deliver. Apr 22, 2022 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Streaming services are glutted with anthology series, but we still needed this one. Truthful, validating and sometimes just plain magical. Rated: 4/5 Apr 15, 2022 Full Review Alexandra MacAaron Women's Voices for Change The biggest, most important message that these quirky tales are putting forth is that, whether we like it or not, being a woman means accepting society’s insistent, but often inconsistent, directives about who and what you are and do. Rated: 8/10 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Monique Jones Common Sense Media A thought-provoking anthology that highlights empathy, compassion. Rated: 4/5 Jun 10, 2022 Full Review Diego Batlle Otroscines.com A series with certain traits of audacity that wants to make a statement about female empowerment in these revolutionizing times, but often does so with more clumsiness than intelligence. Audience Member Strange and awful. Kept hoping it would get better. It didn't! Finally left after Episode 5. Ugh Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Total rubbish. Do not waste your time to watch it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review andrei d Does very little with a lot Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Tidge H Four stories Into this series, and I find it extremely disappointing. Goes to show that no matter what headliners you have cast in a series, it does not guarantee success. What a bummer... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/22 Full Review Audience Member Disappointing. This is a very "woke" show. Boring, confusing and I'm surprised this is on Apple plus. Their other programs are of the highest quality so I don't know why they decided this would be good Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I haven't yet watched them all and probably won't because they are not pro-women, not feminist, they are not coherent, they are not smart, they are just kind of insulting to women in a casual way. I found all 3 I watched so far insulting and sexist. They are the opposite of what they are advertised to be. I don't know who or why they adapted these stores but they have sexist tropes smeared all over them. They make women look weak and dumb. This show was a really bad idea, Apple, and you should try a lot harder. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
