Samantha Newly, the young vice president of a real-estate firm, is forced to start life over after a horrific hit-and-run accident leaves her with amnesia. As she reconnects with acquaintances in her old life, however, Sam is disconcerted to discover that she apparently was a self-centered, narcissistic witch with no successful relationships to speak of. But she wants to be good now, so she sets out to make amends with friends and family, including off-again, on-again girlfriend to roommate and ex-boyfriend Todd.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Christina Applegate alternates between luminously charming and wickedly funny, but Samantha Who? suffers from a glut of quirk that suffocates its winning central character.

Maureen Ryan Chicago Tribune It's all a bit too frantic to enjoy, but Applegate, a skilled actress, does her best. Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Keith Phipps AV Club Keeps the pace brisk, but briskness doesn't make it amusing and while there's potential for the series to find real emotion in Samantha's plight, the pilot mostly surrounds her with grating stock characters. Rated: C Nov 14, 2018 Full Review David Hinckley New York Daily News Medically suspect but comically sound... "Samantha Who?" helps itself with shrewd casting for supporting actors. Jean Smart plays Sam's self-absorbed, abrasive mother, and earns solid laughs right away. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Will Harris Bullz-Eye.com Applegate's comedic abilities are really put to the test in "Samantha Who?" and she comes out victorious across the board. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Jason Lynch People Magazine Coming to grips with the best and worst of herself, Applegate is divine, but the show's real MVP is self-absorbed mom Jean Smart. Katheryne S Terrific show with a fabulous cast. Applegate + Jean Smart + Melissa McCarthy + Jennifer Esposito was women's comedy gold. The supporting cast of Tim Russ, Kevin Dunn, Barry Watson and Rick Hoffman was great. The TV exec who cancelled this show was an idiot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
