Socially awkward high school student Otis may not have much experience in the lovemaking department, but he gets good guidance on the topic in his personal sex ed course -- living with mom Jean, who is a sex therapist. Being surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis has become a reluctant expert on the subject. When his classmates learn about his home life, Otis decides to use his insider knowledge to improve his status at school, so he teams with whip-smart bad girl Maeve to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their classmates' problems. But through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realizes that he may need some therapy of his own.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Bawdy, heartfelt, and surprisingly wise, Sex Education is a raucous romp through a group of teenagers whose sexual misadventures are so thoughtfully rendered, adults could learn a thing or two from them.

Scott Bryan BBC.com The weirdest thing I think is that it's a school which is incredibly American - they've angled the show so it can be popular beyond the UK. I was expecting a cheerleading team to emerge at any moment. Jul 15, 2020 Full Review Lauren Carroll Harris Guardian The season develops in tone and depth beyond its initial easy comic setup; at its heart is the notion that the problems, frustrations and disappointments of teenagers are as real and valid as those of the so-called grown-ups. Jul 24, 2019 Full Review Melinda Houston Sydney Morning Herald Funny, occasionally cringe-making but always with enormous heart. jolin t funny yet surprisingly mature at the same time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review Alex F A brilliantly refreshing series that tackles taboo topics with humor, heart, and an insightful perspective on teenage sexuality. The sharp writing, and mix of emotional depth with comedy make it a must-watch for anyone looking for an honest and entertaining take on growing up Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/25 Full Review Al M Sex Education Season 1 is brilliantly written, witty, and educational. I was really blown away by the acting of those playing students, and of course Gillian Anderson. Highly recommend watching Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Audience Member I've watched this series for many years now and I think it's time to give my opinion. The series is both fun and devastating, with moments that I really found boring. It is very easy to empathize with these characters that with only 5 minutes on the screen I felt comfortable, it is one of the best casts I have seen and that I have liked in a series. This series gives us great information about sex, no one has to be ashamed of what it is, what it has, how it looks or how it wants to be, giving us various cases of several characters both hateful and funny. For me a good series/movie and actors are those who make you feel something, a feeling, even if it's anger, sadness, happiness, etc. That means he fulfilled his purpose, and this season took several smiles like anger and frustration of mine. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review Diego B Great start for the series, i love the characters writing and i love school atmosfere Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Naitik B Best with 2,3,and 4 season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
