Socially awkward high school student Otis may not have much experience in the lovemaking department, but he gets good guidance on the topic in his personal sex ed course -- living with mom Jean, who is a sex therapist. Being surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis has become a reluctant expert on the subject. When his classmates learn about his home life, Otis decides to use his insider knowledge to improve his status at school, so he teams with whip-smart bad girl Maeve to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their classmates' problems. But through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realizes that he may need some therapy of his own.

Critics Consensus

Sex Education's sophomore season definitely has more going on, but by treating each new subject with care and humor, it leaves plenty of space for its characters to grow.

Drew Gregory Autostraddle Like in its first season, Sex Education insists on the great value of our unique relationships to our bodies, to sex, and to each other. Sep 10, 2021 Full Review Cameron Glover Bitch Media The centralizing of pleasure is what makes Sex Education shine and truly stand apart from other shows that address sex education in some form. Mar 15, 2021 Full Review Sonia Rao Washington Post It considers their inner lives and motivations, less concerned with what they're doing than how they feel about doing it. That empathetic approach is especially evident with the heavier story lines. Dec 22, 2020 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Sex Education Season 2 is vulnerable, honest and full of heart. The second season of Netflix’s beloved show is even better than the first. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 29, 2023 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu The sexual escapades of our favourite school-goers at Moordale High continue, aided by some fantastic writing and the top-notch cast Sep 25, 2023 Full Review M.X. Katyayani OffColour.org Seeing Mavis taking ownership of her anger and demand actual change was incredibly heartening because teenagers and young adults are rarely given that level of control over their relationships without being painted as brats. Alex F A brilliantly refreshing series that tackles taboo topics with humor, heart, and an insightful perspective on teenage sexuality. The sharp writing, and mix of emotional depth with comedy make it a must-watch for anyone looking for an honest and entertaining take on growing up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/25 Full Review Audience Member The second season is as good as the first, our characters returned, and more adventures involving Maeve and Otis. Now the sex therapist finally enters the sexual world with his girlfriend and faces problems in their relationship, both sexual and emotional and thanks to this it helps him to further expand his vision on this subject having already the necessary experience. The relationship between Otis and Ola was necessary for the development of the two characters who were not supposed to be together but they were, and this led you to realize that they are not soul mates. I had a lot of fun watching the rivalry between Maeve and Ola. Eric and Otis' friendship is the best I've ever seen, I liked all the moments where the two of them were together and talking, I would have liked that in the other seasons there were more of these two characters together, they as a couple are very relaxing, fun, funny and beautiful. Knowing a little more about Maeve and Maeve's family was the cherry on this incredible cake, knowing more about her and her feelings, they hit her right in the nail on the head. Talking about abuse was something extremely important and necessary, the sweetest girl, funny and a little silly suffers from abuse, although she takes it well, it will leave her a scar for life, fighting to feel good and keeping her distance from men, this girl will never be the same, but she still maintains that happiness, every time she appeared on the screen she was so pleasant and funny.
