Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy stars as Frank Gallagher, a single father of six who spends much of his free time drinking at bars. The Gallagher children -- led by oldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum), who takes on much of the child-rearing responsibility due to her mother's absence -- manage to raise themselves in spite of Frank's lack of parenting and unusual parenting style when he does choose to act like a father. The drama is an adaptation of the BAFTA Award-winning British show of the same name.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Settling into its fifth year with a irascible sense of fun, Shameless hints that the Gallaghers won't become a functional family unit anytime soon - but audiences will adore them all the same.

Kristin Musulin USA Today Despite the crazy scenarios and even crazier people, season five left us loving the Gallagher family more now than ever before. Dec 18, 2017 Full Review Alan Sepinwall Uproxx It is also, despite being an hour each week and featuring dramatic moments - many of them heart-wrenchingly good - funnier than pretty much all of the half-hour shows Showtime tries to pass off as comedies, and it's a pleasure to have it back. Dec 15, 2017 Full Review Joshua Alston AV Club Shameless frequently gets off to a slow start, so it's far too soon to cast too critical an eye towards the season. Rated: B- Jan 12, 2015 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Many of the characters haven't really evolved or learned from their mistakes. But that's kind of the point, isn't it? That's the cycle of poverty. It's cyclical for a reason, even if it doesn't fit into the happy ending formula we sometimes want. Dec 18, 2017 Full Review Kaitlin Thomas TV.com Shameless is still flying under the radar for many viewers. But its status as one of television's most criminally underrated series could very well be what allows Shameless to flourish. Dec 18, 2017 Full Review Vlada Gelman TV Line Yes, things are looking pretty dire for the Gallaghers, and we haven't even gotten to Fi's own messy love life yet. Sofia H I hated fiona in this season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review letaiser nah it passed me this time ,I was not a big fan of this season the characters were getting worse and worse and the only two likable characters were Karl and Lip and maybe chuckles because he was kind of innocent , so the whole judgement thing and confrontation against Karl and chuckles was pretty cool, wish they had shown more in the prison this would have carried this season, there were overall not so good scenes where I thought ,damn I wanna see this only now or some like this , the half sister of the family Gallagher was so goddamn annoying and I absolutely hated her that I even forgot her name but I think it was Sammy , I think Jimmy came back but it was absolutely nothing special and they made a bad comeback ,now the good things: sheila is gone Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Regal R 50/100 - not as good as all the hype. peaks s2 but then falls off season 3 and on. gets really repetitive, annoying, predictable, and the situations that occur are so unrealistic it breaks your immersion. they ruin any type of character traits and every single one just pulls a 180. good characters are now bad, bad characters are now good, responsible characters are irresponsible, just super bad writing because its every single one and its so unbelievable. i genuinely dont know how it went on for 11 seasons. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Silke A My favorite shameless season. Ian's storyline was the saddest shit I have ever seen. (Cameron did a very good job playing his character.) The gallavich moments were ngl magical as well. Seeing Mickey take such good care of Ian really warmed my heart. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/29/23 Full Review greg m Thoroughly enjoyed this season, but some of the narratives are getting even more heart wrenching. Carl and Deb really just made me want to scream at times. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
