Andrew J I've watched this show since season 1 and I was increasingly disappointed after each passing episode of season 17. I miss having judges who were qualified and gave honest feedback about the actual dancing. The choreography this season seemed to cater to the level of the dancer rather than forcing them to rise to the occasion. Overall there will be no memorable moments for me from this season. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/22 Full Review Audience Member Hi, I do really like the show, but in the finale in the video of Alexis is telling her story about her mom having brain cancer. Which I totally feel for her and her family, but I thought it was an unfair advantage in the vote. I think that, that really swayed the audience into voting for her. I really don't think she would have won otherwise. Keaton totally will the competition from start to finish. In my opinion he should've won those hands down. I also think that you would get a lot more fair outcome If the public voted and not just the studio audience because who knows who was put in the studio audience? Another reason I'm upset is that they gave Keaton a hip hop dance. Now if they had given him that dance on any other night it would have been fine. But to give him a dance he had never done before was absolute BS. Especially because they gave Alexis all dances she knew really well and had done multiple times throughout the competition. All three judges stood up for Alexis but didn't do the same for Keaton! All of this adds up to the show rigging it so Alexis would win! I'm so upset! And feel horrible for Keaton because he deserved to win this! IT'S NOT RITE! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It feels uncomfortable this year. After 16 years of faithful watching the show, myself and my wife are really disappointed at the dancers selected on the 17th season. The selection process was simplified, no more academy week, and it shows. The overall quality seems lower...really lower than the other years. We are also wondering if some better dancers were rejected in favor of being more inclusive. After the first few episodes, it was clear that the judges were for some reason eliminating better dancers, was it to keep the show more inclusive? Who knows, but it certainly felt uncomfortable and we were outraged at their decision. This season is by far the worst one of the whole 17 season run. And lastly, the judges keep saying that the dancers need to find a way to connect with the people. But this season, we find that it is the judges who do not connect with us. Particularly Mme J. Siwa who we find unsympathetic. We miss Nigel for sure, his expertise and truthfulness is lacking on the panel. And for that lack of panel likeness, we blame the judges, the same way they blame the dancers when they do not connect with the audience. We also felt that the judges protected the wrong dancers this year and eliminated better technical dancers. Disappointing season, the most disappointing of the lot. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This used to be one of my favourite shows but it's lost its focus. Without judges with serious dance expertise, and without voting by a wider audience, it has become a disappointing celebrity circus. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review tom c It looks to me like the producers have targeted the teeny crowd by eliminating the grownup judges and adding Jojo Siwa. It just feels like the traditional elements of dance are being ignored in order to draw in a younger audience with a minimal experience of dance history. For the first time I feel like I will not continue to follow this show. Please bring back Nigel and Mary! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This show has become a circus, and a platform for cheap celebrity attention for those who know little or nothing about real dance and its history. The dancers have exhibited feeble dance technique at best, but good showmanship. Showmanship alone is NOT dance. The judges aren't even capable of providing constructive feedback for the dancers and the audience has no idea what they're voting on. Dance tricks, props, fancy lights and the judges' feedback that "y'all are great dancers" do not pay honor to the art of dance that so many true dancers work for and aspire to. This show has devolved from what used to be an inspiring show to a disgusting display of ego and narcissistic opportunity:/ So sad to see the art of dance disgraced by this media platform.
