Although he has no plans to step aside as the head of Waystar Royco, the international media conglomerate controlled by his family, aging patriarch Logan Roy is contemplating what the future holds. He has lingered in the limelight longer than even he thought he would, and now family members want to run the company as they see fit. Despite a best-laid succession plan, tempers flare over Logan's intentions. Kendall Roy, Logan's eldest son from his second marriage and a division president at the firm, is the heir apparent. As Kendall attempts to solidify his eventual takeover, he and the three other Roy children face a difficult choice as company control and family loyalties collide.

These privileged adults remain in part children, forever in their father's shadow and trying to make sense of their lives. Succession is bitterly funny and juicy entertainment, but with mercurial assurance it slowly reveals itself as a tragedy.

Oh, it's delicious, this dark soap opera-cum-socio-political satire. Funny, too, and occasionally shocking in its portrayal of the cruelty - both casual and calculated - of the unfathomably rich.

Succession masquerades as profound commentary on power and family by dressing up soap opera dynamics in expensive suits and literary references. The show invites viewers to feel intellectually superior while watching terrible people be terrible to each other—without offering any genuine insight beyond 'the ultra-wealthy are miserable too.' It's emotional pornography for the NPR crowd: the pleasure of watching privileged people suffer, packaged with enough prestige markers that audiences can pretend they're engaging with something meaningful rather than simply indulging in schadenfreude.

I thought I'd try something new, seen the high rating and thought I'd give it a go! On initial viewing of the earlier episodes, my interest was plateaued as usual with new TV shows while they character build and set the story on a upwards trajectory, however despite it getting better when each sibbling starts to vie over the potential weaknesses of each other's ego, it became apparent that despite the portrayal of each character was fantastic, it failed to keep me engaged enough to carry on into S2. I may try the next season at some point, but the hooks that the show tried to pull me in with ultimately failed. Maybe in the future..

One of the greatest show of all time. This first season is setting the tone, with the comedy and drama that makes this tenuous show great. The actors and dialogues are genious as well as the scenario and the realist filming in the office style.
