Swarm can be as unpleasant as a hornet sting, but Dominique Fishback's ferocious performance and the creators' bold creative swings add up to a truly subversive take on toxic fandom.

Audience Member This show sucks. The protagonist is an awful POS. I’m all for a “bad guy” protagonist, but come on. Further, the timeline is confusing and all over the place. So sick of hearing about Nija, or whatever her name is. Everyone trying to be Jordan Peele these day … Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Chloe R Weird but intriguing at the same time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review doog l The series sets out to be a commentary on celebrity worship, but ends not saying much at all. Just another show about a psychopath. Weird how there are so many shows with psychopath protagonists these days. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review Matilda B It was hard to watch sometimes, but only because of the unsettling good direction and incredible acting from Dominique Fishback. The lighting a sound choices provided a sense of eeriness while the easter eggs and references made it all feel too real. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/23 Full Review C R A bit weird, but somewhat intriguing and not too bad overall. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Daria J Heartbreaking, funny, disturbing and poignant. Totally Unique and at the same time watchable, is a rare find. Alison Herman The Ringer As compelling as its main performance may be, though, Swarm is still a missed opportunity for insight into the allure of modern idol worship—lots of noise, but not much melody. Swarm kicks the hornet’s nest, only to find there’s not much inside. Mar 25, 2023 Full Review Shamira Ibrahim BuzzFeed News [Dominique] Fishback adds dimension and humanity to an inscrutable character with a nuance that elevates the series. Mar 23, 2023 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Dre is a kind of unholy avenger borne of our celebrity obsession, and Fishback’s performance is so good that the concept acquires a vertiginous dread as Dre traverses America. Rated: 3/5 Mar 23, 2023 Full Review Sharai Bohannon Horror Movie Blog I will say if you dug Atlanta’s awkward disturbing comedic vibe, then you’ll probably enjoy this too. The two shows have many of the same attributes, but one focuses on a Black femme with a nasty murder habit. Aug 14, 2023 Full Review Lex Briscuso Film School Rejects Fandom and fatalities don’t mix—but in Donald Glover and Janine Nabers’ new series, they come crashing to a bloody, glorious head.
