Bay Kennish is a teenager who grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother. Fellow teen Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age, was raised by a single mother in a working-class neighborhood. One day in her high-school chemistry class, Bay discovers that her blood type doesn't match either of her parents'. Official tests confirm that Bay is not her parents' birth child. When the Kennish family meets Daphne and her mom, Regina, they realize that the girls were switched at birth. The news prompts the Kennishes to allow Regina -- who is experiencing financial difficulties -- Daphne and Daphne's grandmother to live in their guest house. The two polar-opposite families struggle to learn how to live together for the sake of the girls, who try to keep their footing in both the world they know and the new one into which they are thrown.

People made tough, life-altering choices that put the thoughts of others before themselves. It was an inspiring episode. jon c Season 2 continues the journeys of the Bay Kennish and Daphne Vasquez. Season 1 had Bay’s real father Angelo come back to try and make up for lost time. Bay and Daphne’s friend Emmet started dating and it caused a debate about hearing people being with deaf people. Even Emmet’s father came into the picture to decide what’s best for him. Of course not everything turned out so well. Bay makes the decision to go to Carlton. It’s not an easy transition as other students disapprove of more hearing people attending. She also meets a student named Noah. Emmet wants Bay back but she’s in a rough patch. Carlton then faces the toughest fight of its life being such an educated institution. There’s also a special episode entirely in ASL so the community can be recognized for their place in the world which is always welcome. Ty comes back from his tour in the Middle East. He and Bay start dating again. Bay gets a job at a carnival. They both have trouble reconnecting since he’s been through so much. What’s best for them both? Daphne also got a job and found some romance of her own. It’s tough for her still knowing she has to make her way in the world being handicapped. Travis her other friend may be into her. She starts a food truck service but faces challenges in a rough neighborhood taking advantage of her. Daphne later runs into a coffee maker named Jace whom they’re still trying to make something together. She then takes an internship at her father’s senator office but comes across a scandal involving another politician. Daphne stands up for herself but also for someone too. Is it so wrong for her to tell the truth by crossing so many lines? Regina also came out about knowing the switch. I was actually tearing up when she was opening up about the whole dilemma. She’s also unsure of whether to give Angelo another chance. Sadly Regina’s hand is going numb and she won’t be able to use it as much. Because of her employment issues she starts drinking again. The Kennishes also attempted to sue the hospital for the actions of the switch. Kathryn was also in the process of writing a book about how she handled the switch. I think it’s pretty noble to make sure no one else suffers the same mistake. Now a pregnant woman shows up claiming Angelo has another child. Angelo has also won a $5000 check for being cleared of crimes in Europe. Angelo just wants to have the time now with his new baby as much as he can. Toby had gambling issues but the good news now he is making his way to his music career, too. He meets a girl at church named Nikki. After they break up he meets a new girl, Elisa Sawyer who is the daughter of the opponent his father is running against. Toby and Nikki reconcile and get engaged but start to have differences. Simone comes back and she and Toby reconnect. Can Toby find his happiness? Mr. Kennish is running for mayor. His dad is blocking Toby from going to Washington University. It’s terrible to feel like your body is betraying you. There is a difference between hearing loss and deaf gain. Hearing people don’t know themselves and they think deaf people have less than they do. It’s all about personality, perspective, and identity. You can still gain friends hearing or no hearing. We shouldn’t let every opportunity pass us by no matter how much others tell us how much we’re limited to. How many people would take a pill just to be like everyone else? It’s also a shame people take advantage of a handicapped person like it’s that easy. You also get more rich and deeper though and you have to fight twice as hard to make it in life. Does everyone recognize all deaf people? Is integration really the best strategy? Does it just come down to how we prioritize? You can still be yourself and be loved by anyone. Season 2 is shorter than Season 1 but they manage to get enough in for viewers. Bay and Daphne are growing up in the world making their own decisions that will determine the rest of their lives. New friendships, new loves, new heartaches lie ahead not just for them but for their friends and family. The season also cleverly toys around with the social and political side of things involving hearing and deaf communities. What should the majority be? Should both exist together? Can things be the same or different? I like that it's much more hard-hitting this time around for something that people don’t normally acknowledge. Big developments now lie ahead for our two main girls, the question remains: can they handle it all? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Season 2: I got even better.
