      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

As comforting as a buttery biscuit from a friend, Ted Lasso's sophomore season is a feel-good triumph that plays into the show's strengths while giving its supporting team more time on the pitch.

Kimme R One of those feel-good shows you need especially in times like this. Would recommend Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Ben N Seasons 1 and 2 we great. The characters were a mix of sweet, fun, silly, an inspirational. THe idea was a bit far-fetched, but that wasn't the point The heart of the show is about what it is to be human. That no one is one or two dimensional. That we all have our faults and we all have our strengths. That it is important to lean on strengths and to help each other through life. I had fun and was touched watching those first two seasons. It was my favorite show this decade for those two seasons. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Dillion J In the second season of the show, we find the circumstances of the show at an all time low from the aftermath of the game portion of the show, however, from here on out, character interactions are all essentially totally positive. Everyone are friends, and while that is a nice conclusion for the end of season 1, season 2 unfortunately feels as though it has lost its major appeal, that Ted Lasso becomes friends with people that initially hate him because of how positive he is. This season has a strange subplot where Ted basically only has to win over one person, a psychiatrist, and in order for the show to try to capture some drama, it expands and extends Ted Lasso and his own mental health as he attenlts to come to grips with his divorce and his past. However, the entire excercise feels as though it comes out left field and the conclusion of the subplot is not resolved in any satisfactory way. More than season 1, this season drops the ball for many plotlines and many of the episodes are vignettes to help give depth to many of the minor characters since Ted Lasso can no longer carry the plot. In addition to this, the game part of the show is the only source of tension, and while season 1 used the games to help be a sort of allegory for the slow change of the team and the perception of the world towards Ted, the games instead stand on their own as almost unrelated drama which drives the plot more than I feel like a show like this needed. This show was a show with sports in it, this season the show becomes a sports show, for better or worse. However, it does a good job being a sport show and each game is griping, it is just too bad to get invested in the characters, the story to resolve and the show to keep going aimlessly. The writing also takes a hit, the same issue with clunky pop culture references and puns which approach annoying when they were at first fairly charming. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Name G Going against the majority grain here, and gonna say: I still don't understand the appeal of this show. It's as breezy as any decent Hallmark Christmas movie in the books. The only unpredictable part of this show is just how safe they will play the next story line. Everyone is just buddy buddy, and there is no conflict or drama. Not that I particularly watch any entertainment for it, but I def noticed it missing in this show. Watching this show is like ordering a Bud Select 55 beer. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but not my preference. Everything that happens in this show is just too easy. Not the worst show, but if I had to watch a comedy workplace show, I'd prefer the first few seasons of The Office over this any day of the week. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Steve A Love this show!! shortbread anyone ? Doreen St. Felix New Yorker The eight episodes I've seen of the new season can feel underbaked and free-floating, the writing formulaic, the plots even slighter than they were in Season 1. The inconsistency of quality has the effect of intensifying the successes. Dec 10, 2021 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian The broadening and deepening must have felt like a risk to everyone involved in a show predicated on bringing light comic relief to viewers... But it's paid off. They shot and they've scored. God bless. Rated: 5/5 Dec 10, 2021 Full Review James Dyer Empire Magazine Ted Lasso might not be laugh-out-loud funny, and the title character's good ol' boy schtick won't be to everyone's taste, but both he and the show are blessed with an almost preternatural affability that it's near impossible not to love. Rated: 4/5 Dec 10, 2021 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community Ted Lasso Season 2 still has no right being this good, but it is. It wonderfully straddles its comedic moments while balancing them out with so many heart-felt passionate moments. Rated: 9.5/10 Jan 23, 2023 Full Review Sameen Amer The News International (Pakistan) The cheery optimism continued to be contagious. Dec 28, 2022 Full Review Bill Brioux Brioux.tv It’s not the jokes... it is the humanity that makes Ted Lasso special. Sep 7, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
