In 2149, overdeveloped and polluted Earth is dying. With no way to reverse the damage done to the planet, a group of scientists finds a way to open a fracture in the space-time continuum. This creates a portal to prehistoric Earth, leading to a last-ditch effort to save the human race by correcting mistakes of the past. The Shannon family participates in the 10th pilgrimage to Terra Nova, facing such prehistoric dangers as dinosaurs. The Shannons are also challenged within Terra Nova, as not everyone on the mission has the same intentions to save mankind. Prolific filmmaker Steven Spielberg serves as an executive producer of the series.

Critics Consensus

The excessive exposition can be a lot to keep up with, but Terra Nova boasts vappealing visuals and the potential to be a truly compelling series.

Carli Velocci TheWrap It drags a bit in the middle, but the sci-fi series sets up one of the most fascinating worlds in TV's history. Jun 29, 2018 Full Review James Poniewozik TIME Magazine Whenever it comes across an actual interesting idea, it goes out of its way to dispense with that idea as fast as possible. May 21, 2018 Full Review Chadwick Matlin New York Magazine/Vulture Over the summer, Nova was the great, Cretaceous hope... And then the characters opened their mouths. May 21, 2018 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media There's nothing good about Terra Nova. Feb 24, 2020 Full Review Brian Wilson What Culture For a television series the CGI was often breathtaking, and that's one of the things that made it so notably interesting. Oct 23, 2018 Full Review Chris Swanson What Culture The show looks great, as I said, but there is an exception to this greatness, and that's the CGI dinosaurs. Travis G Love it they need to make more Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Nikki M I remember watching Terra Nova when it first came out in 2011. OMG - I loved it! I thoroughly enjoyed it and was shocked and very disappointed when it was canceled **. I'M SO EXCITED I CAN FINALLY STREAM IT AGAIN in 2024! (Steven Spielberg rock this one for sure) Even over a decade later, I am thoroughly enjoying re- watching this. It's an adult TV series that you can share with the whole family. (Meaning it's more sophisticated than something that is made to appeal to children, but as an adult watching it, it's something that children and younger audiences can all enjoy together or individually. ) If you're looking for quality entertainment, to take you away - draw you in, and hold your interest ... Without being lectured or have your intelligence insulted by so much of what is being produced these days .... This is definitely worth the watch. It is truly one of the best sci-fi / fantasy shows that was produced. *Definitely the best I've seen in a very very long time* - it's not so much "sci-fi" and it's not "Harry Potter" type fantasy ... It does involve dinosaurs - but it's also not about "dinosaurs". (And the dinosaurs are not some cheesy type of toy looking BS - of course Steven Spielberg produced it so that should say something about that ... ) I don't want to give spoilers and I don't want to explain the whole series ... But I expect that now that people can stream it easily - on a very popular streaming service - it will gather new fans and delight old fans alike. The story arc became so much more interesting with every episode ... And by the end of the season, you could not wait to see what was going to happen next ... The first episode might leave someone feeling like it's a show that will be predictable - but through the first season it becomes anything but predictable. The story is truly interesting and the character development takes a great turn and many of the actors have great synergy. The story has teeth - and so much potential ... So much of the story left to tell... TRULY A TERRIFIC SHOW. *DON'T LET THE FACT THAT IT ONLY HAD ONE SEASON FOOL YOU* 😉 It was evidently canceled, because it was so expensive to make. (Spielberg was not going to put out bad CGI Etc ... so... ugh $$$!) *But with the ever-growing and changing technology, you would have to think that additional seasons or even a reboot could be made with great quality in a more economical way??) and I say, why not spend money on one terrific show and cancel one of the more ridiculous shows that end up getting canceled after one or two seasons because they're so bad?? I'll take quality storytelling and entertainment over quantity anytime. *It would be wonderful to have it picked up for a second season after all this time - or, maybe a reboot. (The reboot does concern me a little bit because it seems like so much of the writing for television and movies like these days has become subpar - I would hate to see the integrity of this show damaged by SOME of the complacency of writers and showrunners in today's world... But who knows ... Either way, I hope people here will enjoy it as much as I have. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a season 2 - yeah, I'm an optimist so why not 😉🤓 I've waited a long time to be able to stream this show without having to purchase it or rent it ... I've gone to look for it many times to rewatch it, but I'm not in a financial position to pay for films or TV at this time ... And can only afford a couple of streaming services. (Although I would purchase a streaming service that took this series into season 2 or gave it a reboot 🤓👍🏼) - Sooo... "Thank You" - to the "very popular" streaming service for making it available for old fans and the many new ones that are bound to find it and enjoy it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/24 Full Review Martina M Je to najlepši seriál zaslúži si aby ho restartovaly a natocily 2 a viac serii aj keď je to už 12 rokov ale teraz začali tie reštarty tak dúfam že to konečne restartuju rovnakymi postavami Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Costin G loved the show...too bad it didnt move forward ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Kasha W Such a great show… I was so disappointed when they cancelled it after only one season.
