This modern soap opera mines the intertwined lives of the Cohen, Cooper and Nichol families for drama, with a contemporary music soundtrack adding to the proceedings. Ryan, a teenager from the wrong side of the Chino tracks, finds himself in well-to-do Newport Beach -- an enclave of Southern California's Orange County. Taken in by a lawyer and his family, Ryan winds up in the midst of snarky, wealthy high schoolers and their sun-drenched angst.

After losing some luster due to one too many twists, The O.C. rebounds in its final season with a more streamlined narrative, bringing the series to a graceful conclusion.

Joanne Ostrow Denver Post Think of "The O.C." as a music video and it's less painful. Mar 31, 2020 Full Review Hal Boedeker Orlando Sentinel A show that had so much juice seems to be running dry. Mar 31, 2020 Full Review Melanie McFarland Seattle Post-Intelligencer Creator Josh Schwartz's writing came off like a light, sharp javelin, funny and wicked in all the right spots, and the cast was charismatic perfection. Mar 5, 2019 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Though "The O.C." is unlikely to ever return to its top spot among buzzworthy shows, this latest reinvention hews true to the show's initial tone and should satisfy long-time fans. Mar 31, 2020 Full Review Alan Pergament Buffalo News Its peculiar mix of comic adult misbehavior, teen love and sexuality and sarcastic humor -- all played to a trendy musical soundtrack -- returns for a fourth season that illustrates it has stayed at the party too long. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 31, 2020 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel It's easy to deduce how the characters of The O.C. spent their summer vacation. They were practicing jumping the shark. They have it down perfectly. Mar 31, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Esteban C last one and i’m very deeply sad to say goodbye! although this season was by far my least favorite, i’m going to miss these iconic characters and their (with this season especially) very ridiculous lives! after marissa’s death, everything took a weird turn and we not only had an alternate reality episode, but a few inconsistent characters and plots. che, ryan the fighter and the whole earthquake thing were just a little too weird. i loved the finale, i think it was nice for what they got previously in the season, but i do have to admit that i would have wished to see the characters not ruin their lives in these last sixteen episode. goodbye orange county, hello berkeley. it’s been an absolute pleasure <3 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review ERIKA G THE FIVE STARS ARE ONLY FOR THE LOCATION. DREAM LOCATION. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Jason R Season 4 was much better without Marissa causing trouble, Taylor was a better love interest for Ryan but ultimately the show ran its course and this was the final season Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Brian B I wish it had never ended, or they would remake it, the overall story was just awesome! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/23/23 Full Review renee d Season 4 is so different than the other 3 seasons, it's terrible. I know they had to change things because of Marissa's death but the storylines are just bad. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Sarah Z The last season is terrible. The only good episode is the last one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
