Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Let's be real, if slapgate didn't happen this show would just another annual dreadful awards show with no substance and a bunch of celebrity in one big circlejerk over a bunch of movies most people don't care for. Take away that Will Smith faux pas and I wouldn't even know the Oscars even happened when it did. As ugly as an incident it was, it made for a fun topic to gossip about and for that, this year's Oscars gets 2 stars from me, otherwise I wouldn't even bother. If they thought that eliminating the categories that actually put in the work to make movies great and keeping all the glamorous, elitist celebrities in to pat themselves on the back for a million hours straight would draw a better audience, they were hilariously mistaken. A bunch of movies no one has heard of or cares about; very few of the movies people actually watched or appreciated. Talk about not knowing your audience. Of course, that's not the point--it's to congratulate themselves and preach at us peasants about how we need to start caring about "the current thing" all while they don't give a crap. The 94th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will honor achievements in film. This marks the first time since 1987 that the Academy Awards has three hosts, and the first time since 1977 multiple women filled the role.
