Shown in Great Britain for more than five years (debuting in 1961) before it caught on in America, "The Avengers" is a secret-agent thriller that almost bests James Bond. Jonathan Steed -- an urbane, proper gentleman spy -- teams with various assistants throughout the series' run, including Dr. David Keel, Cathy Gale, Emma Peel and Tara King, to repeatedly save the world from diabolical schemes plotted by equally diabolical evil-doers (among them robots and man-eating monsters).

Tom W These are the Emma Peel seasons I used to watch back when after school. Watching them again these days, in the first season with Emma - just slightly better in stories than it devolves to in later seasons of pure nonsense akin to the USA's Wild Wild West series - I'm struck by just how little they put into the production. It must have just cost nothing more than the salaries of the cast and crew, because there is really nothing to the sets, special effects or props as they were (none at all). Very, very bottom budget productions. Might even have been better on Radio with the imagination filling in the visuals of expanded material/locations they couldn't do on their budget - though what we're getting in visuals are the ladies.
