Life changes forever for 14th-century warrior Wilkin Brattle when a messenger implores him to set aside his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner. In a time of rebellion and political upheaval, he must walk the line between protecting his identity and serving a mysterious destiny, guided by mystical healer named Annora. In addition to being under Annora's control, he is manipulated by Milus Corbett, a devious Chamberlain with political aspirations. Wilkin must traverse political and emotional pitfalls on his way to understanding his greater purpose -- all while being driven by an increasing romantic connection with Baroness Lady Love Ventris.

Alison Herman Flavorwire A crude, gory spectacle does not a great series make, and The Bastard Executioner displays all the surface marks of an ambitious period piece or genre epic without any of the core traits. Audience Member It'brutal, there are a lot, but a lot of hystorical failure with the cloth, the jewels, the cutlerys, ustensils. And I don't really understand what the show is about...What kind of story the showrunner wants the audience to understand and to show. Sade, because it could have been very interesting to learn more about this periode of time which was dark and very brutal. In the darkest time you can finf some light and even glamour. The pilot although not great did show promise and the remaining episodes were worth watching only being spoilt by the B&W fade outs.
