What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Conners offers the comforts of its source show, but more focus on the family's ever-evolving dynamics adds a welcome layer of working-class empathy without losing any of the laughs.

Karl Quinn The Age (Australia) It's not half bad. In fact, it's at least half good. But it is also deeply, deeply conflicted. Dec 13, 2018 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com It needs to definitely move past its grief and regard, with clarity, the many mistakes of its dysfunctional parent in order to avoid repeating them. It's getting there. But it hasn't arrived quite yet. Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Justin Burke The Australian It was noble to keep the show going for the unblemished cast and crew, but the resulting show doesn't feel right. Nov 26, 2018 Full Review Bill Brioux Brioux.tv There is so much life in this family, this blue-collar concept, and it is more relevant today than it was 30 years ago. Nov 8, 2022 Full Review Dominic Patten Deadline Hollywood Daily The Conners is still quite watchable, if for no reason than the strong talent of Goodman, Metcalf and Gilbert as the acerbic heir to her mother Darlene. Dec 18, 2018 Full Review Jef Rouner Houston Press It's like I said: fine. It exists perfectly well without all the baggage of waiting for Barr... Dec 10, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Ed R Not the same without Roseanne. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review Bmac T I grew up watching the original show and loved it. I've watched every episode a few times over the years. Sadly this show has nothing like the original. It's updated for "today's audience" which is a tiny percentage of the actual audience. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Blanca A Not as good and wholesome as the original Roseanne. I think Roseanne is needed to make the show witty and lighthearted humor when it brings up really heavy issues. The banter between her and the every family member made the show tolerable. Dan is too serious and the show just doesn’t have a good balance. You can’t have the show with Dan you can’t have the show without Roseanne. Both characters are needed! Some characters were removed that would’ve made the show feel more homey. The new characters were seemingly thrown in the show to welcome viewers of this current age, (Darlene’s son Mark, DJ’s wife and daughter and more unnecessary people) but in doing so they’re removing the real original fans. This show just seems like they are trying too hard to be “hip”. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Chris M Can't recommend? Won't recommend!! EVER!! How do the Rotten Tomatoes critics always get it so wrong? The audience score has it right on the money. I'm shocked that Laurie Metcalf would have associated herself with this. Unless there was some contractual obligation or she owed someone a favour. A HUGE favour! I see Sarah Gilbert is an executive producer. And I see that her type of humor influences the shows. I couldn't even get through one whole episode. I've never appreciated her humor, found it demeaning and bullying. This show is a stretch for most of the actors. I feel so embarrassed for them when I sense how unnatural they feel when acting. The whole thing is an embarrassment. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Audience Member I'm utterly shocked at all the poor audience reviews! For once, I agree with the critics. This show is such a great spin off from the old Roseanne. Of course it would be exponentially better had Roseanne agreed to come back but I know she has her reasons, and to be honest, Darlene and the other female family members, along with Dan, seem to carry the show pretty well in her absence. The acting is on par, the laughs are abundant, and the situations they find themselves in are interesting and keep me hitting the "next" button as long as I'm awake and not otherwise detained. I really love this show. And I'm so very glad I found it. Again. And the poor raters...really need to give it another go. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review Matt M Ridiculously bad acting, even from the stars. Seriously, how did some of the side characters get cast? The writing is also awful. It feels like a high school play. How did this happen? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
