Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background, uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn; McCall comes across to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter; but to a trusted few, she is "The Equalizer" -- an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who's also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Queen Latifah returns to the small screen in full command of her craft - if only The Equalizer's overly- engineered early episodes were on her level.

Lucy Mangan Guardian I told you - script-wise, things are woeful. But the rest is great fun. It is another derivative but satisfying franchise that knows exactly what it is doing. Comfort watching in troubled times. Rated: 3/5 Aug 5, 2021 Full Review Doreen St. Felix The New Yorker I like the show best when it abandons righteousness and goes for camp, as when McCall pretends to be a chauffeur in order to duplicate her passenger's cell phone. Mar 9, 2021 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR Not that believable or even that compelling, but at least CBS is trying something different. Feb 24, 2021 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent Like the CBS network's other reboots of old series (Hawaii Five-0, Magnum PI and others) it's by-the-numbers genre stuff with, so far, no flavour of its own. Aug 11, 2021 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ A police procedural (even though our hero is often working against the authorities) that's constantly on the move, shifts seamlessly between darker and lighter moments and never really taxes the audience. Apr 20, 2021 Full Review Charles Mudede The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Why does Queen Latifah's equalizer kick ass? Because she is Queen Latifah. My god. What more do you want? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review MyLisa F The Equalizer is fun cleanish show you can watch with your teen for movie night. I love the heartfelt storylines. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Steve H I wanted to like this show, but the scripts were often on the level of a Saturday morning cartoon. I didn't get past the first few episodes, so I'll never know if it got better... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Jennifer K Love this show! Can’t wait for season 6! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review G. V Queen Latifah as the equalizer 🤣🤣🤣unbelievable and dumb Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/05/24 Full Review lololo l I dont even know where to begin on how bad this is. This has nothing like the original movie with Denzel. The casting has to be one of the worst for a tv show. Who tought it was a great idea to cast a non actor who clearly cant act nor fight for a role like this? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
