Forged S DC by way of The CW. The second show, of what was dubbed the "arrowverse," started off strong, but over time fell into the typical CW cookie-cutter trap, meant to appeal to the teen and college-aged demographic. Let me lay it out for you. The first season is easily the strongest of the bunch, as this found the hero character (in this case Barry Allen/The Flash) thrust into conflict, while simply trying to understand their newly acquired powers that disrupted their status quo (typically in the form of starting a new job, a new school, or moving to a new city and meeting their initial love interest). All subsequent seasons usually fall flat as the writers try to recreate the magic of the first season. This results in the writers picking a random character from the main friend group and assigning them an issue (in the case of the DC shows, this came in the form of a new super power). The main character would be tasked with helping their friend, while dealing with a new "villain-of-the-season" (as opposed to a "villain-of-the-week") and their own relationship drama. I'm not saying that the show was bad, actually the first season was quite engaging. But over time the show became predictable and sadly uninspired. Shadow and Act Staff Shadow and Act I feel confident that the relatively young cast is getting lessons in Acting 201 by the master thespian that Martin understatedly is... Sep 15, 2022 Full Review Vinnie Mancuso Observer It does something that really no other superhero show or movie has done in a while, and that's make being superhero look really... enjoyable. Jul 23, 2018 Full Review David Fear Rolling Stone Like Arrow, this series nails the feel of a vintage comic book without being cheesy or cheap, and the more classic Flash supervillains it introduces (Captain Boomerang, Pied Piper, Reverse Flash), the speedier it climbs up viewer's must-see lists. Jun 26, 2018 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media The Flash is off to a solid start. Rated: B+ Feb 12, 2020 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Splice Today The plot bumbles here and there, not with a whoosh, but more banal television thunk, thunk, oops. Sep 16, 2019 Full Review Li Lai Mediaversity Reviews At its best, the first season of The Flash is a rebuttal of toxic masculinity. On the flipside, women remain marginalized and disability is mishandled. Rated: C+ Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
