Critics Consensus

While life in the Russian royal court remains nasty and perilous, The Great is still genuinely great with its acidic absurdity and uniformly wonderful performances.

Hugo Rifkind The Times (UK) Hoult is tremendous in The Great, vile and charismatic, channelling much the same vibe you might expect if Hugh Grant were starring in a whimsical romantic comedy about Pol Pot. Jul 14, 2023 Full Review Nick Hilton Independent (UK) he third instalment in the saga of The Great is history at its most horrible -- and most enjoyable. As Peter himself might say after a large plate of pheasant in grape sauce: huzzah! Rated: 4/5 Jul 7, 2023 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe Playful, deeply irreverent, twisted, moving, and, this season, defined by one or two powerful twists, The Great is true to its title. May 17, 2023 Full Review Ally Ham The Review Geek Funny, morbid and delightful as ever, The Great Season 3 takes as much delight in its cruelties as its triumphs. Rated: 9/10 Jul 31, 2024 Full Review Akhil Arora AkhilArora.com Killed off a lead character twice—sans any rebirths—as it embraced a revisionist female-driven future while being morose, laugh-out-loud, and delightfully over the top. Dec 22, 2023 Full Review Melody McCune Geek Girl Authority Sacha Dhawan’s performance as Orlo has been a delight for me over the past two seasons. I’m going to miss Orlo. Dhawan brought so much heart and enthusiasm to him. Maybe it was all a dream? One can only hope. Aug 22, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

David H Season Three largely chucked out any semblance of comedy and became a showcase for Elle Fanning's histrionics. Such a shame, because The Great started so well, with so many gifted actors clearly relishing every moment of delicious, appalling behavior. By the end, it becomes a chore to watch and a blessed relief when it's done. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review varsha k Absolutely loved the entire series! Amazing storyline and performance by all the stars. Very few people have watched this and I want more people to know about this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review W W Great show of the year unbelievable this knuckle head cancelled the show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review sobia a Season 3 - what the hell happened? After two stellar seasons, it’s all gone to pot. The storyline is badly written, the characters suddenly unlikable (Catherine and Marial in particular are cringe worthy), everything seems clunky - and the constant sexual overtures and language feels overused and trite. Really not surprised there’s no Season 4. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review LL S Fitting end to a bold series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review A K The chemistry among this supremely well-casted ensemble of incredibly endearing characters was a marvel. Loved every minute of this series. You will be tempted to can it many times throughout the first season. Don't. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
