What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Jim Gaffigan Show benefits from an abundantly likable star in a setting that, albeit familiar, adds a new, natural energy to the standard struggling-dad-sitcom genre.

Tim Grierson TheWrap Gaffigan exudes a relaxed, unpretentious air, no doubt helped by the dozens of TV shows and films on which he's appeared. But the dopey-guy persona he's crafted in his stand-up doesn't completely translate to a sitcom. Jul 17, 2015 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Gaffigan... though it traveled from NBC to CBS (where two pilots were shot) before coming to rest at TV Land, does its work with ease, and with all the conviction and charm that easiness bestows. Jul 16, 2015 Full Review Gwen Ihnat AV Club What helps bring The Jim Gaffigan Show up to another level are its eponymous star and the cast he's chosen to surround himself with. Rated: B+ Jul 16, 2015 Full Review Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind The Jim Gaffigan Show is exactly the comedy any fan of his stand-up would hope it would be, a heartwarming sitcom that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. Mar 11, 2020 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media If you're not a huge fan of Gaffigan's shtick, or don't find him and his family super-relatable, this subtle sitcom about marriage and urban parenting might not pack the laughs that will keep you coming back. Rated: 3/5 Jul 20, 2015 Full Review Ellen Gray Philadelphia Daily News Maybe there's an edgier Gaffigan crying to get out, but the edgiest thing about the show is its approach to his family's religion, which is matter-of-fact and specific. And wholly refreshing. Jul 20, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I was more impressed with his stand up. This show seems like he's trying too hard to be funny. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best shows on TV! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review mrs g Much better, much funnier than gross LouisCK----did you catch that Fiasco on SNL---Louis C.K.'s 'SNL' Monologue About Child Molestation . Louis spoke about "GOOD CHILD MOLESTATION" he's not funny, he's gross. Thank God for JIM GAFFIGAN!!! great show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The Jim Gaffigan Show has a certain element of charm to it that starts strong and fizzles out a few episodes in. After investing in the series it becomes obvious that the scenario and many of the jokes the show plays on are rehashed material from myriad other 'comedian sitcoms' out there. The saving grace for this show lies in it's strong cast, which doubles as it's downfall as Gaffigan's own awkward and ill-inspired acting style pales in comparison to literally all of his colleagues. Wrap it up with an uninspired, contrived season finale that grasps at the oldest and most predictable trope it can get it's hands on, and this is a show that starts off with promise and devolves into a forgettable mess by the series conclusion. Solid light entertainment, but brings nothing new to the table whatsoever. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The show itself is good with presenting clean comedy that is actually done really well. Though, some episodes seem to lack new material that actually is humorous without repeating the same jokes about food. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member unwatchable.
