Nancy Banks-Smith Guardian It's fast and funny and formulaic. I laughed louder than I remember doing recently at any sitcom. Feb 26, 2020 Full Review Steve Johnson Chicago Tribune The pace is fast and no case served up in the preview episodes are less than compelling; the tobacco lawsuit is especially cleverly handled, leaving the viewer wondering if such a simple strategy might not work in real life. Feb 12, 2019 Full Review John Carman San Francisco Chronicle Slickly produced and deftly written, "The Practice" follows the swirl of action at a law firm, where two or three cases bubble onto the screen each week. Sep 13, 2018 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Viewers get a glimpse of the lawyers' personal lives, but in the end the series is really about the practice of law and the professional (and not-so-professional...) relationships that emerge as a result of working together within the legal profession. Rated: 4/5 Feb 12, 2019 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) The Practice, while not perfect, is the kind of quality drama that will not only entertain you but make you think - a rare and winning combination. Aug 14, 2018 Full Review Terry Kelleher People Magazine In a Kelley series, words count. And that's a compliment, even if we wish someone would take a breath occasionally. Mike P David E. Kelley's masterful courtroom drama; which was both very popular and critically acclaimed in it's day... And it still holds up brilliantly all these years later! (It's hard to believe this came out during the same era as Friends and Melrose Place which look like ancient relics now). It gets a little bogged down in serial killer antics about halfway through; there's one episode when they're being stalked by three different serial killers at the same time! (Ridiculously!) But the thrilling crime epics depicted here retain the same twisty nail-biting suspense and visceral power as when they first aired in the 90s; they're that brilliantly conceived by David E. Kelley and acted out by the masterful cast. Series highlights include: "Vanished, Parts 1 and 2"; "One of Those Days"; "This Pud's For You"; "Mr. Hinks Goes to Town"; "Poor Richard's Almanac"; "Free Dental"; "Mr. Shore Goes to Town"; "New Evidence Part 1"; "Hammerhead Sharks Part 2"; "Happily Ever After" and "The Case Against Alan Shore". Also look fast for "Axe Murderer"; that's the crossover episode with Calista Flockhart and Ally McBeal!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/23 Full Review Api Thrilling legal drama; this one is the best. It's certainly right up there with LA Law; The Defenders; The Good Wife: The Good Fight; Perry Mason and Law and Order... Helmed again by Emmy Winning producer wunderkind from the 90s: David E. Kelley. This is like a grittier; darker variation on LA Law; the characters are tougher; the villains are meaner; the situations are more intense; more realistic.... There's a realism here that's not as present on the slicker: phonier LA Law: which is more of a puff piece/glam soap opera by comparison. There's a terrific cast throughout the show's run; from Dylan McDermott to James Spader ... The show is better at the beginning than at the end.... The beginning when it was a stunning breath of fresh air; to the end when it was still good; but it got a little formulaic and predictable; and the supporting cast had been decimated, and so had the budget... My other complaint about this show has to do with how Rebecca started and finished law school all in one episode. After being a receptionist with the firm for three years; suddenly; and without any warning; she opens an envelope and screams. Then she says, completely out of the blue; "I just passed the bar! I'm a licensed attorney!". All of a sudden. "I've been going to night school secretly for six years... and now I passed!". Seriously David E Kelley? This has been a regular character for several years; we hear all about her life; except this little tidbit? That she's a law student?! Usually when you enter law school they verify your legal ties to the community at that point; upon matriculation; they verify if you work for the government; or what law firm you work for... Bobby certainly would have been notified; or would have found out through all his faculty ties. Or someone would have seen her studying somewhere, somewhere along the line. There's no way she could have kept that a complete secret for three years. That's outrageous! That's like finding out she's a serial killer or something; all of a sudden; after knowing her for years...And instead of springing that on us all at once; they should have built that up over two of three shows... So that episode gets an F; David E Kelley. That was like the dream sequence episode on Dallas; that was cheating! But anyway.... This is still a superb show overall; in spite of all that stuff; throughout it's run; with some of the best court cases ever filmed for the small screen. The cast is also excellent: they all have fantastic chemistry and unassailable verisimilitude; they really seem like lawyers trying cases! And Kelley really flexes his legal expertise and prowess throughout; you can just feel it when you're watching it!... (Kelley was a real attorney for a couple years...) Verdict: Thumbs way up 👍 Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
