This reinterpretation of the hit British cult series from the 1960s stars Jim Caviezel as a man trapped in a foreign world without any knowledge of how he got there. As he begins the acclimation process, "Number Six," as he's known, discovers others just like him -- inhabitants identified by numbers and having no memory of any prior life. They're also under constant surveillance. Trusting no one, Six is driven to find the truth behind "The Village," and more importantly how to escape.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Meekly echoing the classic orignial series, The Prisoner is a ponderous, pretentious sci-fi mystery with giant plot holes and many moments of general incoherence.

Zack Handlen AV Club It's fitfully interesting, intermittently compelling, but, on average, terribly dull. Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety The result proves perhaps not surprisingly frustrating -- a very British six-hour, three-night event that features striking images and arresting moments but can't overcome a persistent lack of coherence. Nov 23, 2009 Full Review Ken Tucker Entertainment Weekly It's self-absorbed to the point of incoherence. Rated: C Nov 23, 2009 Full Review Scott Wampler Collider If you're the kinda person that enjoys psychological thrillers, mysteries... I cannot recommend AMC's The Prisoner enough. Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Scott Collura IGN Movies By the time the viewer gets to episode five or so -- if they have the endurance to make it that far, that is -- there's really just one question going through your mind. "Where's a life-snuffing giant white bubble when you need one?" Rated: 4/10 Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Josh Bell Las Vegas Weekly The whole thing, really, is anticlimactic, a staid, existential rumination, which is occasionally as nonsensical as the original but never as amusing. Maria L I've never seen the original British show but this remake is entertaining. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review Audience Member If it were possible to give this zero stars, then that is what this tedious remake would've been graded. The script, direction, acting are all terrible. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member An extremely disappointing remake of a classic TV series.
