Nicole I I love the adventure and dynamics of the characters. How cool it would be to live in a house like that with all of those secrets. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Laura W Really enjoyed the show. Great casting, dialogue, and world building. Hoping for another season. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Dana C Loved this series I just finished and wasn’t sure why people are hating on this show. Sure, it's a ton of dialogue, but in my book that means you have good writers attached to the project. I'm sure the next season will be filled with adventure and magic like everyone is requesting. Anyway, good job with the actors and the look of the show what a treat. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Audience Member I truly am appaled at the quality of TV shows lately, and how they do not seem to learn from each other's mistake: this is so Disney it's painful to watch and I'm surprised from some reason they did not snatch the rights. We do not need a percy jackson 2.0. Now that I'm done venting, let's get into the facts: - The dialogues are cringe, and people should really stop with the contemporary slang: it does not make your work relatable, just ensures it won't stay relevant: "You went through my DMS??? You're so dead!" Do the people involved on the show have teens? Cause I feel like it's what adults think teens sounds like? - The acting in the beginning already made me recoil, it's so bad? Like help! - The show don't tell seems to be absolutely dead, and we can also grieve good exposition in the process: why does the mother literally fact dumps??? Just gives us all the boggat, Thimbletack and fairy talk when there's legit no reason to do so so early on, and aunt Lucinda's plotline should not be to the forefront so early. - The show don't tell: we hear a wet sound when Jared stabs the invisible boggart, and then we zoom on the blade: I ask you, was it necessary for him to stupidly let out a "Blood???" LIKE WHO WROTE THIS - Onto the poor writing: I think I almost shut off my computer at the beast's monologue regarding AC and USB cords.... followed by: I'm starving... LIKE ARGH THIS IS SO CRINGE. Are you committing murders because you're an angry ecologist???? Help, this is so weak. - Let us not talk about the nonsensical reaction to the house: in the books, the boys are 9, and the house is literally decrepit and falling apart, the complaints make sense. Here, you discover a gorgeous all but dusty house, with an amazing tree and plenty of rooms, and you still act like it sucks? I'm sorry but be coherent and make your characters/their motives/their reactions believable. Anyways, safe to say i won't be watching another episode and I strongly advise anyone who considers this show to just... not. Do not. Trust me, read the books, and leave it at that. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Braxton M I quite literally cannot believe this show is getting all the hate. I watched the first episode and let me tell yuh, it was probably the best show I could actually sit through without looking at the time. Not only was I amazed at the acting and the visual effects, I was actually quite surprised with how the story played out - something you don't get from the modern film today. I would definitely recommend. I haven't even read the books and still could keep up with the plot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Billy C I was going to come and leave a quick review and be done with it, but I read the review right before me here on Rotten Tomatoes by the initials T S and decide to respond to this review instead. As for the worst book adaptation out there since you have read all books and seen all adaptations out in the public, I'd like to offer up some pointers to your one-star review. For starters Tony and Holly, the authors and owners of the Intellectual property known as The Spiderwick Chronicles are Both executive producers on the making of the series. Now that you know they are both executive producers on the series you would obviously know that they both approved the "adaptation" and are clearly ok with it. If the authors and owners of the IP are ok with the new modern take on the story well then you should be ok with it as well. I guess in the end it doesn't matter what we all think anyway. I think those of you who are so fast to be so upset about the new modern series are more upset that the characters they cast look different from you so just tell the truth rather than gas light the issue. Next thing is if you do a little digging, you can find out the reason Disney dropped the show after it was complete and it's not because of creative issues it was only due to budget reasons. Disney paid the money to make the show, but before airing the show Disney still needed to pay a huge licensing fee to air the show on their platform. I read this licensing fee is more than 20 million dollars or so and Disney was also required by contract to pay millions in marketing and advertising the show. Disney opted to cancel the show especially since the strike was going on at the time and the industry was hurting financially. To conclude this lesson you must do research it’s all over google for your reading satisfaction. Roku saved the show and gambled huge and obviously struck gold. If you didn't read about this today Roku posted that this series is their most viewed series ever with millions of streaming hours viewed only in three days. I think the Jury has spoken! The audience has spoken and more than likely there will be a second season announced soon, I'm sure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Caroline Siede The Daily Beast For families who’ve finished Percy Jackson and are looking for something to watch next, The Spiderwick Chronicles is a worthy enough follow-up. Just don’t expect too much in the way of bona fide magic. Apr 24, 2024 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Variety Unfortunately, though the show is supposed to be adventurous, it lacks the whimsy needed to elevate the narrative for a new generation of young adults. Apr 19, 2024 Full Review Angie Han Hollywood Reporter The Roku Channel adventure is undone by the most mundane of missteps: repetitive plotting, lumpy pacing, underdeveloped characters making inexplicable decisions. Apr 19, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr Podcast The focus on the Grace family, and particularly Jared's mental health, is welcome, although it does overwhelm the plot and become repetitive as the season wears on. The lacklustre FX and terrible theme song detract. A soft recommend for fans of the books Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 26, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider The Spiderwick Chronicles isn’t scary enough or wonderous enough to hold our interest, and we get the feeling that kids who watch the show will seek out other shows that are either scarier or more whimsical. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Emma Stefansky IGN Movies The Spiderwick Chronicles attempts, to varying degrees of success, to have it all: a teen coming-of-age story, a pan-cultural blend of magic and myth, and a modernized adaptation of a beloved book series.
