In one of the longest-running science fiction series in network TV history, FBI special agents investigate unexplained, mind-bending cases known as "X-Files." Though the government is convinced that the outlandish reports are false, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and realist Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), for most of the series, stop at nothing to prove that "the truth is out there." Series creator Chris Carter also serves as executive producer of the thrilling pop-culture phenomenon.

Angie Errigo Empire Magazine Sure, by its ninth, final season the show's mythology was exhausted...But for completists there are good stand-alone episodes. Rated: 3/5 Jul 6, 2018 Full Review Ken Tucker Entertainment Weekly These days, The X-Files is busy with babies and more cast changes than a hardcore conspiracy theorist could handle. Rated: B+ Jan 5, 2015 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club In The X-Files, we have a prime example of a show that was no longer necessary once reality made conspiracy-based horror redundant. Rated: C- Jan 5, 2015 Full Review Charlie Jane Anders io9.com But also, this show just sort of ran out of juice and no longer seemed to have any real stories to tell. May 11, 2018 Full Review Shaun Davis SciFiNow David Duchovny only appears in two episodes, Gillian Anderson looks more bored than ever and in season finale, 'The Truth', all we find out is some waffle about the Mayan calendar and that Mulder and Scully do both believe. Oct 15, 2017 Full Review Grace Duffy The Mary Sue Tragically however, it has to end on a dud note-season 9 was terrible. Really, really terrible. Sep 27, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Pepe L Wow... they seem to have tried to do EVERY episode worst than the other... they even had an episode where people sing. Rotten indeed. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Dashell N I would've liked it more if the ending wasn't terrible and left me with so many questions but other than that it was alright of a season season 10 and 11 are better Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Sebastian L Sadly, season 9 is an uninspired and unworthy ending to the pop-culture phenomenon that is the X-Files. The edge, the critisism and the satire that originally were the hallmarks of the show have now been replaced with mainstream themes and more viewer friendly messages. The last of the original seasons is more or less a sludgy soap opera with glimpses of supernatural occurrences. It points fingers at no-one and the result is a lukewarm finale that could have been so much more. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review tom m Delightful. Interesting. Well done. Entertaining. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The ninth, and then-final, season of The X-Files has good episodes such as "John Doe", "Hellbound", the Burt Reynolds one and "Audrey Pauley" (yes, a majority of those good episodes are MOTW ones), the actors are all trying their best and the cinematography is great as always. But alas, the show wants to be X-Files: The Next Generation but is too stuck in the past to commit to it. Scully's not much more than a glorified guest star, Mulder's absence is saddening following the events of the eighth season making them feel pointless since he disappeared again anyway (I was really annoyed by dialogue from some characters entertaining the idea that Mulder was dead), Doggett and Reyes have nowhere near as much chemistry as their predecessors, The Lone Gunmen's final fates are depressing (not helped at all by Mulder's conspicuous absence) and the mythology episodes...yikes! With its out-of-character moments and series finale that offers no closure in favour of a glorified clip show, is it any surprise most fans started to prefer MOTW over myth arc episodes in post-movie seasons? The 9th season was undeniably a letdown but the good episodes don't make it a colossal waste of time. And hey, the show still left quite the legacy so you can't be too mad at it for that. Fun while it lasted, eh, Chris Carter? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Tim L The new agents keep this thing going. Great job!
