64% 180 Reviews Tomatometer 72% 1,000+ Ratings Audience Score In one of the longest-running science fiction series in network TV history, FBI special agents investigate unexplained, mind-bending cases known as "X-Files." Though the government is convinced that the outlandish reports are false, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and realist Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), for most of the series, stop at nothing to prove that "the truth is out there." Series creator Chris Carter also serves as executive producer of the thrilling pop-culture phenomenon. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Jan 25 Buy Now

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny's chemistry remains intact, but overall, The X-Files revival lacks the creative spark necessary to sustain the initial rush of nostalgia.

Oscar K Ok, this is technically for the first few episodes (I just couldn't stand any more). 1. The chemistry between and depth of the characters is completely gone. 2. Many of the dialogues, even between Mulder and Scully, sounds like a table read, worse even, like they shot each actors lines separately or something; not believable at all. 3. Everything looks like it's been manufactured and retouched to bits; like a perfume commercial, "perfect" makeup and soft lighting. Even the sound: e.g. when they're out on a busy street, or deep in a forest, more often than not it sounds like they're in a studio, no real-life ambience, just dramatic background music. 4. The humor and banter is mostly gone too, or it's so arranged, careful and shallow that one just misses it. Please do yourselves a favor and go re-watch the first 9 seasons that actually matters (this is what I did). They're really good! And even though they can feel cliched at times, you know they are and you know they don't take it too seriously and as a bonus you get to see about 10 years of TV history and meme development. Basically, you can allow yourself nostalgia, but also to simultaneously laugh at silly cliches while still deeply caring for the characters and the plot. You will also become a sad old freak like me that realizes how bad shows have become in comparison these days. (In general:4 stars for S1, 5 stars for S2-7, 4 stars for S8, 3 stars for S9.) Follows many of the same structures to the first outings, and for fans that's just what they want. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Michael Idato Sydney Morning Herald The first episode of the six foreshadows a compelling new series, with hints that it will ultimately knit together many of the show's touchstones, such as the abduction of Mulder's sister, The X-Files, Roswell and the origin of the show's Smoking Man. Oct 4, 2016 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Well, that was a decent bit of fun, even if it wasn't terribly believable from a character perspective. Or from any other perspective, for that matter. Oct 4, 2016 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com Season 10 was messy. Sometimes great, sometimes terrible. In other words, it's just like every single season of The X-Files.
