This drama takes viewers into the housing estates of East London. There is tension between the drug gangs that operate almost openly and those who strive to live honest lives against the odds in the crime-riddled area. That tension is explored through the interlocking stories of 20-something drug dealer Dushane, who is determined to become the area's Top Boy, and good-natured but vulnerable teenager Ra'Nell, who is forced to grow up quickly following his mother's breakdown and enforced absence. The program combines elements of a tense gangster thriller with subtle social realism, some tenderness, innocence and humor.

Dan Einav Financial Times As ever, Top Boy transcends gang matters to consider its wider impact and contexts. Rated: 4/5 Sep 1, 2023 Full Review Wambui Waithaka Shadow and Act Even with this being the best season yet, I am not particularly eager for a fourth season. Oct 22, 2019 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald The performances from cast members old and new simmer and flare brilliantly. Deeply steeped in place in a way that few other urban dramas are, it's a must-see. Sep 25, 2019 Full Review Kevin Bourne SHIFTER Season three is a sad, emotional and well-executed send off to one of the best British crime series in recent memory. Sep 10, 2023 Full Review Euan Ferguson Observer (UK) I'm afraid it all got a bit much for me. Sep 16, 2019 Full Review Joel Keller Decider For fans of the original series, Top Boy's comeback delivers. If you've never seen it before, you can jump in with Season 3. Just be prepared to be a bit confused until the end of episode 1. Sep 14, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Cr W It's wel made. But the series is letting the viewer identify with the wrong people. It's not the dealers and so called baby gangsters that deserve our attention, but the casualties the make. I don't care what kind of rough childhood these 'yout' are going through, they are the perpetrator not the victim. Absolutely destroying lives for a little money. So this series keeps the gangster myth going, surely this can not be the aim. But producers are like their hero's here: only out for profit. Crime sells. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Matthew B A compelling statement that breaks down the dark underworld of London, in a light that leaves the viewer incited by its gloom. A must watch, even for the sceptical. Albeit, the lingo may find its way into the corners of your vocabulary, innit. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Regal R 40/100 - the ending to season 2 was laughable, predictable, and the beginning of season 3 was sadly just as terrible and predictable. 9 minutes and 50 seconds in and youve already figured out the whole season. how did this show continue? its sad because theres plenty of good british gangster films. this does not live up to the hype and how it has a 90 rating i'll never know. the story is SOOOO bad Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review Lana B It explores, friendships, love, loyalty, drama and comedy better than any Hollywood film. All of the characters have depth and the script is perfection, natural and moving. The acting is the best I have seen in a long time, both from the younger cast as well as the seasoned older actors . Just sad that they will not get recognized while movies such as Barbie get all the hype whilst being shallow and poorly written, with acting that is amateur at best. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/12/23 Full Review minhaj r Way too rushed, common sense flew out the window in most bits and just overall crap Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review MissNorma WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT- did grey run out of cash??? An ambiguous ending.... REALLY!!! some very important social issues... totally blown over. They might want to give some serious thought to re-writing series 3.
