Small-town Louisiana waitress Sookie Stackhouse already is viewed as an oddball by her friends and neighbors, since she can read the minds of those around her. She doesn't exactly help her reputation, though, when she falls for Bill Compton, a 173-year-old vampire who has "come out of the coffin" along with many of his undead comrades now that a new synthetic blood has made it possible for vampires to survive without preying on humans. Still, the conservative locals aren't wild about mortal-vampire liaisons, especially Sookie's boss, Sam Merlotte, who carries a torch for her. "Six Feet Under" creator Alan Ball is behind this series adaptation of best-selling novels by Charlaine Harris.

Michelle Dean Bitch Media True Blood's failures provide a good lesson for people seeking to ground their progressive work in camp: simply put, that "transgression" is as "transgression" does. Not everyone can be John Waters. Dec 30, 2020 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe True Blood is dominated by heated emotions and tortured love, but there continues to be spiky satire and camp at every turn. Jun 23, 2018 Full Review Ken Tucker Entertainment Weekly Rather than running through a lot of well-written, well-acted, well-edited expository material, True Blood was back to playing on our hearts and minds and throats. Jun 23, 2018 Full Review Cindy Davis Pajiba While I wasn't thrilled with the over-stuffing of this episode, I was truly excited (in more ways than one) to see my favorite characters back again. Jun 19, 2018 Full Review David Bianculli NPR's Fresh Air True Blood is the TV equivalent of the perfect summer beach book. It's funny, it's sexy, it's imaginative, it's outrageous. May 15, 2018 Full Review Chuck Barney Contra Costa Times By the middle of the second episode, the show begins to gain traction and sucks you in with its new set of tantalizing mysteries. Monique G One of my favorite series back then, with Dexter as my first. I loved the satire, the gore and the characters, esp Eric, thinking of watching it again after 10 years. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Audience Member I love Alexander Skarsgård in True blood. Nough Said. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Rowan C Season 3 has been the best season by far and this is for so many reasons. This season starts off with the aftermath of Maryann Forrestes' damage that she caused to so many people. The person impacted the most from this was Benedict Talley who is played by Mehcad Brooks. Sookie gave Eggs his memory back and that is when Eggs went crazy which resulted in him being shot by Jason Stackhouse. Tara was the most broken character this season and for such good reason. She was kidnapped, her boyfriend was killed and she even tried killing herself. We also met the biological family of Sam Merlotte and they turned out to be very bad people. Sam rescued his brother Tommy who is played by Marshall Allman from dog fighting in which his parents made him do for money. In the last episode of the season, Tommy stole Sam's money and Sam shot Tommy toward the end of the episode for walking off with his money. The main villain of this season was Russell Edgington who is played by Denis O'Hare. Russell is almost 3,000 years old and he was the one who ordered Bill to get kidnapped which resulted in Bill being brought to Mississippi. Russell is also responsible for killing Erics' family 1,000 years ago and that is why Eric played on Russells' side so that he could kill Talbot who is played by Theo Alexander. Russell loved Talbot and he swore to get revenge, so Russell basically declared war on humans by killing a man on live television. It was also found that Sookie is half fairy and her blood allows vampires to walk in the sunlight. Eric and Russell tested this but Eric locked both of them with silver outside, and Eric wanted both of them to die at the same time. Sookie did not let this happen and only rescued Eric, but soon Eric told Sookie to bring Russell inside. Russell was burnt to a crisp and Eric gave him something worse than death which mean burying him in cement for over 100 years. Bill turned on Eric when Russell was buried and tried to bury Eric the same way. Bill left and went to Sookies' house to explain why he did what he did. They hear a knock at the door and it is Eric telling Sookie the truth about Bill. Bill was sent originally by the Queen of Louisiana Sophie-Anne Leclerq who is played by Evan Rachel Wood to precure Sookie because the Queen was very interested in her. Eric also stated that Bill let those two psychos at the beginning of the show beat her so that he could feed her his blood. Overall there were great actions scenes, character development and this season has had the best villain so far in the show. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Liz D Jason stay away from weregirls named Crystal. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Brady B I love the entire True Blood series. It was some of the best TV I've seen to date! I would watch it again and recommend to any lover of the genre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Raakhee N Ghosh! I haven't watched anything as bad as this series and I love vampire stories. I mean if I hate Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries, Sookie Stackhouse takes the winning podium! Such a selfish, sick character. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
