David Hinckley New York Daily News This second season of the show's reincarnation turns out to be markedly more entertaining than the first. It's got a better, more engaging story and just generally has its rhythm back. Rated: 4/5 Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Nancy DeWolf Smith Wall Street Journal No sooner has "Upstairs" veered toward farce than it redeems itself, again and again. Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety Even if "Upstairs" doesn't quite rise to public TV's top tier, it's indicative of a service that clearly and happily has upped its game. Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Matt Roush TV Guide [Upstairs Downstairs] can't help but suffer by comparison to the livelier cultural phenom of Downton Abbey. Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Mark A. Perigard Boston Herald The show careens from black humor to near tragedy and then back again. It's a hard tone to master and not always maintained but preferable to the sugar-swathed world of Downton. Rated: B- Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Ellen Gray Philadelphia Daily News Frankly, it's a dispiriting season and I won't miss the show nearly as much as I'll miss Blake Ritson's charming turn as Sir Hallam's royal friend, the Duke of Kent. Audience Member Didn't watch it back in the day, but it certainly has not aged well. Some scenes are reminiscent of a high school play, where instead of looking like well-directed movie scenes, it's a bunch of people walking across a stage and clearly "acting" as they loudly speak their lines. Plots are 70's social commentary, and quite fail to reflect the time period they portray. I'd always heard so much about this series, but bottom line: poor production quality even for the 1970's.
