Widowed suburbanite Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) starts growing and selling marijuana to make enough money to support her family after her husband's unexpected death leaves her in big debt. Nancy has associates in her pot-growing business, which include Andy, who is her brother-in-law, and pot-smoking City Councilman Doug Wilson. Then there's the business of trying to keep the whole thing secret from people like her neighbor Celia.

Critics Consensus

Benefiting from a change of scenery and a renewed sense of purpose for Nancy Botwin, Weeds' seventh season overcomes its lack of narrative direction with solid characterization.

Jason Bailey DVDTalk.com Weeds has turned into a bit of a pay cable soap opera: the turns are compelling, and we're never bored, but it's more about melodramatic entertainment than anything resembling a real emotional attachment. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Debi Enker The Age (Australia) Parker alone is enough to make a series worth watching. Nov 6, 2018 Full Review Myles McNutt AV Club Despite the odds stacked against it, Weeds is in the midst of a bit of a creative rebirth. Rated: B+ Sep 13, 2013 Full Review Matt Richenthal TV Fanatic The series has been an enormous success, but if it was wobbling off the tracks last year, it crashed and exploded off of them this season. Every episode felt like a complete mess. There was no continuity, no pacing. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Matt Paproth PopMatters It starts off strong and has a lot of promise, as the family has moved on and away; soon enough, though, they are all living together in New York and behaving unrealistically and negotiating unfunny storylines. Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Jason Zingale Bullz-Eye.com Weeds has never been a particularly realistic show, but some of the things that happen over the course of the season are so implausible that it doesn't even feel like the writers are trying anymore. Kasso M People told me Weeds gets terrible in its later seasons, but I don't find that it's so much worse than early on, really. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A TV show needs at least 1 likable character. Weeds has never had one - actually it did before, Isabelle. She's the only likable character in the show and she's gone. Everyone is mind-blowingly pathetic together. It tries too hard to be funny but again, it used to be fine in Season 1, 2 and 3. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The characters are becoming selfish, mean, cruel people with no redemption. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review dylan w Nancy being the selfish bimbo she is. For one...she screws strangers she barely knows and cheats on her cell mate with her cell mate's brother...what a skank. And you'd think after 3 years in prison she'd stop selling weed. I think the writers are trying to keep the show on for as long a run as possible but still want it to be about her and pot dealing. Get on a new subject and stop screwing up the character. They have made Nancy dull and stupid because of this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
