"Yellowjackets" tells the narrative of a team of wildly talented high-school girls soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they have attempted to piece back together. Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher and Sammi Hanratty star as the teenagers, while Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis portray their adult counterparts as they reveal the truth about their survival 25 years later.

The basis of this show - a merger of Alive, Lord of the Flies, and Blair Witch - is an interesting anchor and the two timelines (pre- and post-tragedy) are a good contrast. The season offers you an interesting debate on whether it's shared psychosis, evil wood spirits possessing people, or some other third angle. It's starts to get wobbly in the latter part and then comes undone in future seasons.

This is worth a watch only if you're willing to watch it disintegrate in future seasons. This Alive + Lord of the Flies gone Blair Witch adaptation with a girls soccer team offers you two timelines, one leading up to and the tragedy itself, and the other post rescue. Trying to figure out whether there is some kind of evil spirit in the woods, some relic of tribes past, or mass and shared psychosis is an interesting point for the audience, though that will fall apart.
