      Critics Consensus

Penn Badgley's perversely endearing serial stalker keeps looking for love in all the wrong places during a second season that maintains the subversive tension while adding some welcome variations on the series' formula.

Audience Member Well, I did enjoy season two I can feel the newness of it slipping away and leaving room for a teeny tiny bit of dissatisfaction to slip in. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/19/24 Full Review Jason M This season wasn't living up for me, until the very end when it's revealed that Love and Joe are - truly and in fact - soul mates. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Forged S Annnnnnd, that was an awkward pivot. The sharp tonal shift between the first and second seasons is jarring to say the least. Honestly, I'm not sure what the show's about anymore. In the first season you followed Joe, a stalker with a mysterious background, as he strategically removed the ayre of his infatuation's support system. However, the second season sees Joe as a Dexter-like serial killer who's just trying to find love again (ironically with someone named Love) and willing to kill anyone who stands in his way, sometimes in happenstancial clumsiness. The show's ludicrous plot points and character development seem out of place for what they had initially created, a sharp, intelligent thriller. Honestly, it feels as though the different scenarios are played more for chuckles. There's no better a moment to tell how intelligent showrunners and writers believe their audience must be than this example. In an exchange between Joe and a few other characters they reveal to him that to be a "true Angelino" you must witness seven totems and explain what each are. As the episode carries on each of the totems show up. But rather than leave that as a fun Easter egg, the showrunners and writers feel compelled to point it out to you, ya know, in case you didn't catch it. Not good writing. Hopefully season 3 gets better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Fetti Absolutely excellent, thrilling and sometimes shocking POV from a incredibly layered, complex and sometimes likeable protagonist, with some help this time from an equally complex character. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Julia B The LA setting was so over the top cliché, it had me rolling my eyes constantly. Also, it becomes harder and harder to tolerate Joe. I mean he's not meant to be someone we emphasise with (...right?), but having a main character that you actively loath and get creeped out by constantly makes this a really hard watch. Haven't bothered to watch the next seasons yet. EDIT: I just looked at the summary of season 3 and noticed that I HAVE in fact, bothered to watch it, it just purged itself from my mind right after watching it, apparently. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Ballisticzs R Season 2 of YOU takes what's great about the first season and adds more stakes, more depth and emotion to the characters, making the viewer more intrigued into the lives of the other people around Joe & his lover, this season overall took what was amazing about the first season, expanded on it with more sub plots, without any of them feeling any less important to the story. Every sub plot fits nicely into leading us to the big twists at the end of the season while also giving us more background on the protagonist & making us care about all these characters & not knowing who you want to live or die. Overall, YOU Season 2, raised its horizons, & made this entry more emotional, suspenseful, intense, & made the viewers more interested & scared for the characters without the show getting boring or feeling slow. Season 2 gets an A+ Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Dec 30, 2019 Full Review Jessica Goldstein New York Magazine/Vulture I am feeling so gratified by this turn of events. Rated: 4/5 Dec 30, 2019 Full Review Sharai Bohannon Anatomy of a Scream Podcast Network Victoria Pedretti shines in a season filled with new characters that don't work as well as we hoped they would. It starts to lose its way at the midpoint but manages to stick the landing. It also sets up an intriguing beginning for the next chapter. Nov 13, 2023 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz Think of You as a Dexter for this decade. And just hope that it doesn't stick around for one season too many and finish up as a punchline to a whole lot of jokes about TV shows that outstayed their welcome. Feb 16, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Anatomy of a Scream Podcast Network Love Quinn provides a fascinating counterpart to Beck and Pedretti does great work. Jake Scully is cute, but unconvincing. While the subplot involving Joe's neighbours drags, the back half of the season chugs along to a great climax Feb 11, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
