Screenwriter and producer T.S. Nowlin emerged from the independent film scene of the mid-2000s to pen three installments of the popular "Maze Runner" film franchise. Born Thomas Scott Nowlin, he served as executive producer and/consultant on such independent dramas as "Medicine for Melancholy" (2008). He moved up to studio features by virtue of a script titled "Our Name is Adam," a science fiction drama about an astronaut who traveled back in time to aid his younger self. Though Tom Cruise was attached the project, it went unproduced, as did "Agent 13," a feature based on Agent 13: The Midnight Avenger, a novel inspired by the "Top Secret" role playing game. But the buzz generated by both scripts led to Nowlin's assignment as co-writer on "The Maze Runner" (2014), a dystopian science fiction drama based on the young adult novels by James Dasher. After contributing a draft for the 2015 reboot of "Fantastic Four," Nowlin returned to the "Maze Runner" franchise as sole writer on its first sequel, "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" (2015). Nowlin returned to the indie film world that same year as one of numerous producers on J. Davis' "Manson Family Vacation" (2015), a comedy-thriller starring Jay and Mark Duplass as brothers touring various California sites associated with Charles Manson and his cult followers. That same year, Nowlin was announced as writer for the third "Maze Runner" film, "The Death Cure" (2017), for which he would also serve as executive producer.
