This is the Disney animated tale of the romance between a young American Indian woman named Pocahontas (Irene Bedard) and Capt. John Smith (Mel Gibson), who journeyed to the New World with other settlers to begin fresh lives. Her powerful father, Chief Powhatan, disapproves of their relationship and wants her to marry a native warrior. Meanwhile, Smith's fellow Englishmen hope to rob the Native Americans of their gold. Unfortunately, though luscious to look at and painstakingly rendered, Pocahontas is an unusually joyless affair. The adventurous beauty rejects one suitor because he is too "serious," but this movie barely registers on the humor meter.

Pocahontas strives for Romeo and Juliet-style sentiment, but it is shackled by its own constraints. The lovers can't really rise above the petty jealousies of their elders because, as the film never stops reminding us, the issues aren't petty.

Sadly just not enough happened in this, due to the first half of the film being so slow and boring they then rushed the plot in the second half. Also I say plot there wasn’t much of one. Also it does feel the biggest issues they could have tried to tackle were ignored. Still it looked nice and does have a couple of good songs.
