Steve D A tough watch but a powerful one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Garrett B. - Gtmkm98 Although overlong and often draggy in pace, this movie rewards you with extended action sequences that leave you satisfied with a ‘they finally got what they deserved' feel that you fail to experience on films like Schindler's List. The aforementioned action scenes are incredibly gripping and save the miniseries from boredom, although the last hour (mostly in tunnels under Warsaw) does fall to boredom. The movie also alternates regularly between color and B&W, furthering the symbolism shown in Schindler's List. Although every major actor takes great turns (well above the usual TV standard), David Schwimmer in particular makes this movie shine with his no-BS attitude and will to never stop until the Nazis leave the ghetto. Possibly one of his best roles. Although it suffers from overlong-ness and other issues, its best sequences endure as some of the best in TV, and maybe even movie, history. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review Lydia L In one scene a couple walks down a typical Warsaw street. The young man tells the young woman to laugh with abandon so they'll blend with Polish urbanites. They are Jews illegally crossing into the Aryan quarter. She tries to laugh. It sounds constricted, fake … For a split second I laugh at her – then I remember where they are (what I am viewing) and what is happening. I am reminded of the enormous gap between normal life and life in the Warsaw Ghetto – the perversity and horror of it. Avnet's film honors the testimonies of the survivors whom he interviewed and whose testimonies he read. The film is not sentimental – the facts (and silences) speak for themselves. It' s both incisive and epic portraying the rebellion in its collective integrity while drawing out personal narratives and nuances. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/06/23 Full Review Audience Member It illistrates very well the attitude of superiority and contempt of others by the Germans, believeing in theiregotism they could take over the world. There is a hint of that still in their genes if you visit other countries where they holiday as I have encountered in Spain, Italy, Kenya, et al. I have also seen a Gozitan 6 inches smaller make a Tall German cower when he was insulted. Good job. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Great movie about the horrible treatment of the Jews in Warsaw, Poland, and the horrendous fight against that treatment. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member so important to know that there were ghetto uprisings in Poland. I never learned about them in school. inspirational heroes are represented by an all star cast, doing terrific work to portray them. John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture Uprising must be a movie because it makes us feel better about ourselves, when we know perfectly well that we don't deserve to. Feb 3, 2018 Full Review John Carman San Francisco Chronicle A solid network effort about heroism in a most immoral world. Rated: 3/4 Dec 6, 2001 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2005 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews Uprising, though flawed in a lot of ways, is still worth checking out if only to learn about a true-life inspirational tale. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 1, 2003 Full Review Maitland McDonagh TV Guide Merits watching if only because it's a bracing corrective to the deeply entrenched image of Europe's Jews plodding, sheep-like, to their deaths in Nazi concentration camps. Rated: 3/5 Dec 7, 2001 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson New Times A superior film that deserves real movie treatment. Dec 6, 2001 Full Review Read all reviews
