John M As an individual who was raised as a conservative Catholic, is increasingly alarmed at the rise of Christian nationalism and Donald Trump, and the combined impacts on the United States as a constitutional republic, I found this documentary to be simultaneously insightful, informative, and alarming. Without spoiling too much of the plot, this documentary walks viewers through the history and rise of Christian nationalism in the United States going back several decades, puts everything in context, involves interviews with notable players in the evangelical and journalistic communities, and even includes a constitutional legal analysis of the First Amendment as it relates to religious freedom and the intent of the Founding Fathers, as well as the risks which Christian nationalism poses to American democracy. This documentary is absolutely worth watching if you are alarmed at all at the increasing dysfunction in the United States Congress (both House and Senate) and the actions of politicians such as Speaker Mike Johnson, considering his ardent belief in the Seven Mountain Mandate. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review RB Very well done! Appreciate the people in the movie are all religious and constitution experts, most being conservative Christians, ensuring this is not an attack on Christianity, not just from a singular liberal view, but instead is a revealing picture of the political motives of Christian Nationalism over the last 50+ years. The bombshells and eye opening revelations are both frightening and empowering against the threat to democracy and Christianity as a whole! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Stacy This documentary was done well. Scary as hell, though! I loved that the theatre was more than half full. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Carol Very powerful but always balanced look at the origins and rise of Christian Nationalism in the US. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Denise S As someone who grew up in the Bible Belt, I can testify that this film absolutely captures the development and evolution of the Christian Nationalist movement. A painful to watch but none-the-less accurate, well presented, and succinct portrayal of a movement that is challenging the foundation of democracy in the United States. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Sam M There's an interesting documentary on this topic that could be made. This isn't it. This is just a partisan political ad that grew into a movie. Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com In the end, however, the unpleasant truth is that there's not a lot to see here that you can't absorb by going down a Wikipedia rabbit hole or watching "The Daily Show" or "Last Week Tonight" or Rachel Maddow. Rated: 2/4 Feb 16, 2024 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter A bracing primer on the rise of this political movement that should thoroughly scare the large majority of American adults who don’t embrace it. Feb 15, 2024 Full Review Nicolas Rapold New York Times The film’s insights about the role of religion in politics feel especially well-informed because many of its commentators draw on their own personal and professional experiences with the Christian church. They’re believers, too, and they’re worried. Feb 15, 2024 Full Review Robin Holabird Robin Holabird God & Country preaches to the choir, but with a call to action... Mar 27, 2024 Full Review Abby Olcese Sojourners It’s commendable that the film takes this problem seriously and practically, providing a sense of hope for those of us given to despair. Feb 27, 2024 Full Review Robert Denerstein Denerstein Unleashed Does Partland's God & Country preach to the secular choir? Not entirely. Some of the best voices in this volatile documentary are raised by people of faith... Feb 21, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
