      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It might be a bit too eager to tug the heartstrings, but The Horse Whisperer is typically graceful, well-crafted Redford -- on both sides of the camera.

Amy H One of my all time faves. Cinematography is beautiful and the characters are ever changing and growing. A movie for everyone! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Audience Member It's got Robert Redford, Montana mountains and vales, Robert Redford. Scarlet Johanssen as a beautiful young woman beginning to bloom. Did I mention Redford? This movie is much better than the book...slimmed down making it smoother. In Utah Redford had his own ranch by the upper Provo River...called Sundance....original site of Sundance Film Festival...until he moved it to a much larger venue: Park City and Deer Valley Ski Resort. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Even the fake cowboys don't get screwed in the end... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Quite possibly the worst, most dreary and depressing film i've ever watched, we drew straws to see who would stay awake long enough to see the end. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Milo M Horse Whisper was incredibly ill thought out and extremely boring. I never want to see this movie again. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/20 Full Review steve d surprisingly dull for so much talent. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Paul Tatara CNN.com Though I'm more than willing to sit through this kind of thing, I got it pretty quickly, and eventually overdosed on the glorious horsey-ness of it. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Angie Errigo Empire Magazine This is the fastidiously rendered work of a craftsman, and a sob-inducing, beautifully old-fashioned affair which is bound to irritate the hell out of a younger audience. Rated: 3/5 Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Rita Kempley Washington Post The movie is not only a better version of the book, it's a work unto itself. The story is subtler, and the moral issues it raises are far more complex. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Dennis King Tulsa World Even though the movie plods in places, its acting and production values are first class. Rated: 3/4 Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Robert Horton Parallax View A handsome still life, bloodless and schematic. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight Other than the opening sequences with the horse in the sand and the horse and the truck, the rest of the film is rather unoriginal.
