Unlucky Steve (Edmond O'Brien), a convicted felon, is released from prison after undergoing an experimental procedure that erases from his brain all criminal impulses -- the side effect being permanent memory loss. Using beautiful blonde Peg (Audrey Totter) as bait, Steve's old cronies -- Lefty (Ted de Corsia), Arnie (Horace McMahon) and Cookie (Nick Dennis) -- kidnap the amnesiac ex-con to try and locate the money Steve hid prior to his incarceration.

Francois Truffaut Cahiers du Cinéma It is amusing to note that the only effective scene from the point of view of subjectivity is the scenic railway, shot with an ordinary camera with the help of a transparency. May 6, 2022 Full Review Nell Dodson Russell Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder The story, script and acting in Man In the Dark are about as mediocre as they can get. The picture has to rely on 3-D gimmicks to pick it up off the floor. Dec 15, 2021 Full Review Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine You have to wear special 3-D goggles to make visual sense out of this hackneyed crime melodrama. Audience Member It's funny to see that the first studio 3D film generally does a better job at the "enhancement" than current outings. Man in the Dark is a very interesting Film Noir involving science, medicine, paranoia and the standard cops and robbers. While it seems pretty straight forward at first, it is this keep it simple story that allows the film to work so well. Keeping the off beat moments to a minimum and setting up 3D moments that fit with the film, Man in the Dark manages to make 3D enjoyable and a gimmic at the same time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Features some good, gimmicky 3D (even the 2D rear projection shots work), some snappy dialogue and a nifty finale atop a roller coaster. Just a touch draggy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This what 3-D is all about, things being hurled at your face and crazy rear projection. The story is about a criminal who gets brain surgery to change his evil ways, only his past catches up with him. Not a bad story and well acted, but the 3-D definitely takes this film up a notch. The end takes place at a amusement park, and the roller coaster scene is awesome. A must see in 3-D. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
