Torin F MURDER IN THE FRONT ROW joyfully chronicles the Bay Area thrash metal scene of the 1980s, enlisting both fans and bands to tell the tale. Much like Seattle grunge, the story of Bay Area thrash is that of a devoted local DIY scene incubating a vibrant new sound/style that later swept the globe. It's a rare and magical thing, something to be celebrated. Which this docu does very well, though I would've loved a little more focus on the breakout period of the early 1990s, when Metallica's Black album and others took the world by storm. Rock on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly light (in length & depth) doc about the birth of heavy music in the early 80s. Temporarily pauses the fun to acknowledge some of the genre’s fallen heroes. #nitrosMovieChallenge Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/06/22 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to imagine a more definitive document of the bay area thrash metal scene than Murder in the Front Row. Gives a real sense of what it must have been like to have been there at birth of thrash, before bands like Metallica and Megadeth were household names. Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald This celebratory documentary about the Bay Area thrash metal scene of the 1980s makes no distinction between the bands and the fans when putting them in front of the camera. May 27, 2020 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix This well-edited film keeps things lively with great stories and a treasure trove of archival concert footage and photos. Jul 16, 2020 Full Review Kerr Lordygan TV Fanatic Murder in the Front Row is truly a standup homage to the early thrash scene -- especially of that in the Bay area, where it began -- and presents more info than what is known to the typical fan.
