Ed Travis Hollywood Jesus ...there is a somewhat interesting guessing game here as the audience tries to figure out what the characters are trying to figure out. But I didn't buy in all the way, and that killed it for me. Apr 1, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member It's suspense done right! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member 3.4/5 In a context where horror is likely to have the budget to show terrifying visual candy without having to resort to only jumpscares, El Páramo feels a bit soft in regards to the supernatural horror it suggests in its first half, as it later on decides to focus primarily on the emotional and psicological experiences of the soldiers themselves. However, and without this being slightly dissapointing within the movie itself, the suspense that is born out of the strong commentary the film makes against the "everyone is an enemy" military mentality is , neverhteless, strangely effective. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so underrated, a trully obscure masterpiece. Here in Colombia we don't produce or even get to see a national horror movie so often. This movie's plot its very well implemented, the script is carefully developed. Has a good pace, modest sound effects... Camera use suits well acording to the locations, it's atmospherically inmersive and aids to recreate tension. The shooting of this movie was actually on location at +4000 metters above sea level, on an abandoned militar post on top of a mountain in Gerrilla occupied territory. The actors and crew had to use oxigen and paramedics who aided them when height disease stroke. The cast counts with the presence of some familiar faces in colombian TV The plot never gives everything away and still at the end you can't tell at all if it was trully something supernatural or rather a problem of isolation of a conflictive group of soldiers. Here is where it trully shines, cause everything goes downwards since the squad decided to cover some disturbing truths of their past operations. They mutiny against their superior and the convivence among them starts to tear down. Colombian society has been struck by war by many years and in the last decade has been discovered the use of the "false positive" crime among soldiers who kill innocent people to present them as guerrilla fighters and earn benefits. It's a very supersticious society too, these two aspects made the production specially interesting for local viewers, as support a narrative not so strange in colombian battlegrounds, the belief of soldiers in paranorlmal forces, and crimes commited by the state, who being not prosecuted in any legal way, hang on the conciousness of more and more inestable and frustrated men, who finally sucumb over madness and guilt. A Latino American Horror Masterpiece. Best colombian horror/thriller Movie of the decade. A must See.. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Has good production values, but it's a little bit of style over substance. There's not too much of the horror the soldiers encounter on show, it's more about how they deal with the situation amongst themselves. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely wonderful Colombian slow-burn horror! If you like your hotror films with actual tension and story rather than "BOO!" moments, this is a must see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A strong psychological South American horror/thriller. It starts similar to many other military based horrors, the military loose contact with a remote base so send in a team to investigate before all hell breaks loose. Unlike similar films this relies more upon the breakdown in command and the squads on paranoia than anything overtly supernatural. The film has a wonderful washed out and minimalist look relying upon the fog shrouded environment to create unease. Well worth checking out.
