Newcomer Katherine Langford plays the role of Hannah, a young woman who takes her own life. Two weeks after her tragic death, a classmate named Clay finds a mysterious box on his porch. Inside the box are recordings made by Hannah --- on whom Clay had a crush --- in which she explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide. If Clay decides to listen to the recordings, he will find out if and how he made the list. This intricate and heart-wrenching tale is told through Clay and Hannah's dual narratives.

Riese Bernard Autostraddle None of this can rescue the fundamental ridiculousness of the gimmick at the show's core or its unmindful insistence that this show will not only do no harm, but actively encourage good. Oct 5, 2021 Full Review Alison Herman The Ringer 13 Reasons Why, nonetheless, falls far short of its admirable ambitions, often to the point of frustrating them. Aug 15, 2017 Full Review Constance Grady Vox An addictive, immersive show that comes with the standard Netflix flaws but also manages its grim material with elegance and nuance. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 25, 2017 Full Review Fausto Ponce Alta Fidelidad Magazine The work invites you to reflect on a very serious current problem that must be eradicated before it becomes intractable. [Full review in Spanish] Apr 28, 2021 Full Review Neal Pollack Decider As the season ends, 13 Reasons Why takes a sharp ambulance turn toward corniness and cheese. Jan 30, 2020 Full Review Monique Jones Just Add Color 13 Reasons Why is a show that wants to make a positive difference. But that strong earnestness seems to have been at the expense of actually investigating how certain themes could aggravate the problems the show seeks to remedy. Alexander S 13 Reasons Why delves into the darkest aspects of high school life. It explores the devastating impact of bullying, the influence of negative peer pressure, and the escalating consequences of anxiety, depression, addiction, and other forms of drama that can lead to profoundly detrimental decisions. What sets this show apart is its ability to reflect on the real-life experiences of students in my high school who have had a profound impact on their peers during their darkest moments. Unlike other shows that glamorize negative behavior, 13 Reasons Why serves as a powerful reflection and awareness tool, promoting understanding and empathy. The acting and directing in this series are commendable, contributing to its overall impact and effectiveness. Grading: A- Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Veronica H. S As someone who has dealt with depression, and also known many people with suicidal tendencies, I find this show not only very poorly written, but actually extremely dangerous and definitely counter- productive. If you have teenage kids, please talk them out of watching this unrealistic, overly melodramatic, unnecessary show. I personally think that on top of the lack of sensitive approach to such difficult subject matters, the show is written like no more than a trashy soap opera. The writers have zero respect for their own characters, and for real - live teens with real problems and sensitivities. The explicit suicide scene is borderline pornographic. All I can say is,I wish I could unsee the first and only season I watched, and I highly recommend staying away from this show, if you care, even a little, about your soul and your mind. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Pedro Henrique C Excellent, beautiful, spectacular, this TV series is a very true thing Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review Star S The subject of this series will never be talked about enough and s1 turned out to be perfect. S4 was the only season that could’ve used some “tlc” but wasn’t horrible. Although some scenes have been removed I wouldn’t recommend for under 16. (Coming from someone who once went through deep depression it can be triggering to watch.) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Lilianna P Season 1 good, season 2 good, season 3 bad, season 4 horrible just got more boring and unnecessary Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review Caitlin W Addresses a very important subject which is not talked about enough, i loved watching it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
