Based more-than-loosely on backstage shenanigans at "Saturday Night Live," "30 Rock" centers on young Liz Lemon, currently head writer for a live sketch-comedy show in New York. Complications follow when the network's new president orders Liz to hire mentally unstable movie star Tracy Jordan to join the cast, throwing neurotic leading lady (and Liz's best friend) Jenna Maroney into a tizzy. Liz tries to juggle all the egos around her while trying to chase her own dream.

James Poniewozik TIME Magazine At its best a 30 Rock episode is a beautifully constructed little piece of jewelry, with little joke beads catching the light and constantly flashing, adding up to an ingeniously designed larger whole... Other times, it's just a pile of pretty rocks. Oct 14, 2019 Full Review Nancy Franklin The New Yorker The show's true claim to fame, and a reason never to miss an episode, is Alec Baldwin, whose comic magnetism is so strong I'm surprised it hasn't caused weather disturbances. He doesn't steal scenes; he makes them rise and shine. Oct 14, 2019 Full Review Brian Tallerico HollywoodChicago.com A slightly-down third season of 30 Rock is still better than most television. Rated: 4/5 Oct 12, 2019 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network Season 3 was early enough in the series' run that all jokes hit perfectly. Later seasons would have holes in them but this still ranks as the season in which the show finally hit it's stride. Aug 13, 2024 Full Review James Keast Exclaim! Rock remains one of the funniest shows on TV right now. Aug 13, 2024 Full Review Conrad Rothbaum Film School Rejects Not much has changed in the formula, style or laugh departments (all are still some of the best on television) and the guest stars are ample yet again. Dave C Enjoying it still. LOVE Kenneth more and more. Lol. The level of satire has been turned up in this season too Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Test T I watched some of this on DVD recently. I've found it a rather mixed experience in terms of entertainment appeal. I thought some episodes were very amusing, whilst others seem laboured and unfunny. It's mostly the same cast of characters in every show so I can only conclude that it's the writing which is making the difference. I'll finish this series, but I don't think I'll bother with the other seasons unless the remaining episodes are consistently better. It's not a bad show, and I would recommend giving it a go to see how it suits you. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review Audience Member This show is one of my favourites, this season is the best one! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Hilarious writing, interesting plots and we see the characters finally realizing true potential. The banter and puns got wittier and sharper, best represented in 'The Funcooker'. Overall great, arguably the best season of 30 Rock Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review dave d The laughs keep on coming as 30 Rock rounds into form early and stays sharp. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Same shit, different season. New favourite character / actor: writing team member Frank / Judah Friedlander, who does a fine job blending in with the rest of the team, but turns out to have a surprisingly complex web of thoughts, priorities, types of jokes (physical comedy, one-liners, high emotional stakes). Favourite cameo: tie between Jon Hamm, cherished looks and mocked personality, and Peter Dinklage, cherished personality and mocked looks. Most surprising performance: Salma Hayek, whom I had known strictly as the sexy person of previously seen movies, comes in unassumingly, then proves to fit in quite snugly with the deranged antics of the show. Continued disappointment: Jane Krakowski, who makes nothing new out of the same three jokes she is given. Continued delight: the much-desired platonic chemistry between Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. Missed opportunity: Scott Adsit, not given anywhere near as many times to shine as he had in the previous season. Who?: Oh god, too many characters to name. Nearly the entire writing room needs a revamp in personality. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
