A recently paroled master thief assumes the identity of Sheriff Lucas Hood in Banshee, Pa., where his former lover and partner in crime relocated years ago and reinvented herself as Carrie Hopewell, the wife of the town's prosecutor. As Lucas attempts to reunite with Carrie and keep his past a secret, he resumes his life of crime, even as he's hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier, including a mob boss who seeks revenge against Lucas and Carrie for the jewel heist that landed Lucas in prison.

Alison Willmore IndieWire Banshee has a ridiculous energy that's ultimately irresistible, especially when it starts to seem like a shameless mash-up of other TV and film properties. Jan 7, 2019 Full Review Phelim O'Neill Guardian This show is trashy pulp, but, make no mistake, it's trashy pulp of the highest quality. Jan 7, 2019 Full Review Allison Keene Collider Banshee is a great surprise on the winter TV docket, and absolutely worth the trouble of finding it to watch. Jan 7, 2019 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand This is crime TV at its pulpiest, with an unusually sex-positive approach to the obligatory softcore scenes and a brutal twist to the violence. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Dan Buffa KSDK News (St. Louis) ...the best show on television and one that deserves your attention. Nov 10, 2020 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media Banshee's first season certainly was an enjoyable one - despite its indulgence in boobs and blood, it managed to carve out a little niche of pulpy drama powered by great performances across the main cast. Chris B A great concept done very well. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review R V “Action-packed” is what attracted me to the show. The compelling story, strong performances, and sharp writing kept me there. A blend of crime, action, drama and characters that drew me in and made me want to keep watching. Antony Starr is solid in the lead role, bringing both charisma and vulnerability to a character who is as brutal as he is complex. Ulrich Thomsen plays a great villain with a fascinating origin story. The writing supports each character with purpose, and the show doesn’t hold back on raw, visceral action that keeps viewers engaged. One major drawback is the excessive and often unnecessary sex scenes. While a certain level of intimacy is expected to show character dynamics, Banshee frequently crosses into gratuitous territory, which detracts from the show’s otherwise solid storytelling. These extended scenes feel more like filler than essential plot elements, usually disrupting the pacing and pulling attention away from the well-crafted narrative and compelling action. But that’s what you’d expect from “Skinemax” I suppose. Despite this pretty major flaw, Banshee Season 1 is a highly entertaining and well-acted show, just not one you can watch on a plane. If you can look past the overindulgence in explicit content, there’s a compelling crime drama at its core — it’s sometimes eye-roll inducing unbelievability adding to its charm — packed with intense action. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Lane M I love this series, great acting, action, drama, a bit of everything Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/25 Full Review Audience Member Better than the other cop drama - Justified.
