Transitioning from his job as a CIA analyst in the U.S., cerebral officer Daniel Miller's new mission puts him under cover at the agency's Berlin branch, tasked with sorting out messy cases involving damaging leaks, whistle-blowers, terrorism and more. Mentored by jaded veteran officer Hector DeJean, Daniel learns the disorderly world of field work means dealing with deception, danger and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital's hall of mirrors and discovers conspiracies that lead back to Washington, D.C., he wonders if anyone can ever be the same after a posting to Berlin.

Hank Stuever Washington Post This is a show that wants to be complex but winds up being convoluted instead. Rated: D- Dec 7, 2018 Full Review David Sexton London Evening Standard It is disappointingly light on hokum, weighed down rather by seriousness and its ambition to rival the best. Oct 25, 2018 Full Review Mike Hale New York Times As rookie efforts go, it's more than solid. Oct 28, 2016 Full Review Jesse Schedeen IGN Movies It's a solid cast, but apart from the always reliable Jenkins, rarely do any of these actors do much to stand out. Rated: 5.2/10 Dec 7, 2018 Full Review Euan Ferguson Observer (UK) This is absolutely worth sticking with, much more than the sum of its parts. Oct 30, 2018 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Sleazier than most is CIA man Hector DeJean, played with a persuasive air of moral corruption by Rhys Ifans. Audience Member One of the best espionage shows I've seen. I love Homeland but from start to finish this may have been better. It has an overall stronger cast, though of course maybe not as strong of the main 2 characters. But the was more steady and more realistic, yet exciting and intriguing. You could say the same comparing it to The Americans. In it's execution in ways it is more similar to that, with better pacing. Again, a strong cast, but of course the two leads in The Americans were great. TURN was maybe the best spy thriller tv show that was highly underrated, with a deep strong cast, so in terms of those things it is similar. But this one hits on many topics, the politics, the risk, finding whistleblower (season 1) going deep cover to infiltrate (season 20, brink of war (season 3), etc. Very strong show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Why Deep State got such a high score on RT and this hasn't is a mystery to me: solid cast, pretty good scriptwriting, believable characters (mostly, I'll get to that later), great location filming, a nice blend of racy action with clandestine scenes in underground bars where contacts are made; what's not to like? Well, the characters are all good bar the comic book Chinese general (I work in China and speak some Mandarin; this character was lazy stereotyped writing at best and doesn't match up to the other better casting) and also the Mossad officer who sounds like she's trying to do a bad Russian accent and failing; she certainly doesn't sound Israeli. My only other fault is that the last episode didn't make much sense in its resolution; but to say more would plot spoil, there's enough here to make me watch the second season, unlike Deep State, which put me into a coma. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The first few episodes were slow to start & directing was mediocre but things picked up by ep. 5 both with story + direction. End of S1 leaves you wanting more. Stellar performance from Rhys Ifans, Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member who the hell is reviewing this TV show...maybe they're just too afraid to admit that they aren't intelligent enough to understand the plot, and that fact pisses they off. Convoluted? Not thrilling enough? Hilarious. Berlin Station has complicated storyline, but it is not a mess that confuses the audiences. The crew deserves more than a 60% rating. The show is definitely underestimated, and if you watch it with patience, you'll realize most of the critics are talking nonsense. PS. the defected Chinese general Houjin Lin speaks strange Mandarin, and his English is way too good ( my first language is Mandarin, so that airport scene is super funny. I can assure you that he gives up speaking Chinese while shouting ) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member one of the best shows on tv. please keep it going. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Action packed yes. Fast moving sometimes. However, if agents as stupid as this worked for The west, we would all be speaking Russian.
