This dark, imaginative comedy follows the eccentric and dysfunctional members of the Flowers family. Maurice, author of a children's book series, and his wife, Deborah, a music teacher, have a troubled relationship. Maurice struggles with inner demons and dark secrets, while Deborah becomes increasingly suspicious that Maurice is in a secret relationship with Shun, the man who illustrates Maurice's books. The couple are parents to 25-year-old maladjusted twins, who are both competing for the attention of a neighbor.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Singular, sensational, and very-nearly-too-much -- in the best kind of way.

Ben Lawrence Daily Telegraph (UK) Too dark to be treated as a comedy, yet too madcap in its execution to stay within the confines of conventional drama. Rated: 5/5 Jun 18, 2018 Full Review Patrick Smith Daily Telegraph (UK) Not only very funny, marrying pitch-black humour to a surreal yet intensely English sensibility, it was also an affecting study of despair. Rated: 5/5 Jun 12, 2018 Full Review Carol Midgley Times (UK) If you didn't stay for part two [of Flowers] it's a pity because here it found its stride. Rated: 4/5 Jun 11, 2018 Full Review James Walton The Spectator The show is routinely described as a 'dark comedy'. But that doesn't come close to capturing its exhilarating, unselfconscious originality. Sep 5, 2018 Full Review Rosie Fletcher Den of Geek [It's] a Beckettian look at mental illness through a kaleidoscopic magic realist lens doused in folklore and gothic imagery, this is tragicomedy at its absolute best. Aug 29, 2018 Full Review Christine Brandel PopMatters Even if they never appear on our screens again, these characters will stay with us and hopefully positively impact the way we approach mental health in the real world, in each other's lives and in our own. StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest final 6 episodes ever on United Kingdom's Channel 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I found this season to be a bit different than the first season. It picks up where it seems that things got somewhat resolved but here they are going downhill again. I really don't know what to think of this show and characters anymore. Its like they all need therapy and just find some balance with in themselves. The ending though... sigh I dunno. Do not recommend, unless you like ... bizarre writing? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member THE BEST thing I have ever seen on TV Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member if this is what passes for comedy nowadays, then I'll pass. Too over the top to be remotely funny. A dog's breakfast. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
