Geordie Gray The Australian This reaches Game of Thrones-level grandeur; throw in some acting greats like James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson, and slick CGI, and you’ve got yourself a succulent adventure story. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle The TV show is a faithful adaptation, one of the best kinds, staying true to both the plot and the spirit of the original books. But... the writers made one major change that adds a whole lot of poignancy to the final chapter. Happily, it’s a gay one! Dec 29, 2022 Full Review Laura Miller Slate In its third season, His Dark Materials finally strikes the right balance. Dec 27, 2022 Full Review Martin Carr We Got This Covered This season 3 conclusion to Philip Pullman's trilogy is epic on every level. Majestic locations, thought-provoking themes, and headliners Dafne Keen and James McAvoy on solid form throughout. Essential viewing for fans of the source material. Rated: 4.5 Jan 11, 2023 Full Review Akash Singh That Shelf What the show lacks, however, is the sense of wonder that was present in the books. Jan 10, 2023 Full Review Alison Lanier Pajiba Whatever its shortcomings, His Dark Materials takes an epic attempt at an epic story and delivers in surprising ways, and it engages deeply with the life of its story. It’s well worth the journey. Jan 6, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Varun P I couldn’t imagine i would found so many plot holes in a single season. Lets say lyra is a eve but why would anyone leave everything in between just to meet a dead guy in land of death i believe it was done just to increase a storyline. All dead people dont have bodies but still she is hung to get everyone to land of living. And what laughing stock that she manage to persuade her death, boat driver, dead people with small talk and even great people could not do this 😂. Very very bad storyline in this season. I would not recommend anyone who has watched first 2 season to watch this. Seriously this season is complete joke. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/19/25 Full Review Sheena P The final season tore me apart. That was actually good. Good production from Season 1 to 3. Good cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Mae A Perhaps the reason I dislike this work so much has to do with the strange choices made with the Mulefa. It was tragic to see a diamond shaped species that ride on giant seed pods turned into a standard quadruped on tiny skating wheels. I had to stop watching at a certain point to spare those who live with me my angry ranting. I could never recommend this as more than a hate watch but I also wanted some consistency with the books beyond character names and the overarching plot. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Egor N The epitome of mediocrity. Not only did they not care about the book's plot and soul (Lord Azriel's fortress being depicted as a summer camp is a prime example), but everything else was dumbed down. The final battle is one of the most disgraceful finales ever—almost on the level of Matrix 4. Great job by those responsible for the visuals; everyone else should be ashamed of their part in this outrage against a great book. And yeah, no marzipans for Lyra and Will anymore — replaced with strawberries. Why? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review Jeff o I don't know why they cancelled this show it was great.. although it ended on a excellent note so at least there's that. But I'd love to see more... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/25 Full Review Ace T How does season 3 have the highest review score from critics when it's just like bottom of the barrel fantasy by this point. The first seasonwas pretty good and it gets progressively worse. So little about anyone the ending makes sense. Every time they added new aspects, characters, worlds they just dumbed down the show. No continuity, no reason, nothing really tying together at all. Just another BS sappy love ending. Would have been honestly better if they let that fanatic kill the angel and everyone else. Would have made more sense too, wouldn't have made sense, but at least better than all the crap the ending was. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
