Kyle Chayka The New Yorker The original meme had the virtue of cutting to the chase; the show makes you wait. Luckily, Netflix now allows viewers to watch programs at 1.5 speed. Apr 8, 2022 Full Review Tilly Pearce Digital Spy By all rights, this show is about two years too late. The 2020 internet buzz of slicing into hyperrealistic baking goods has long died out. Yet this new show, fronted by SNL’s Mikey Day, whips up one of the most satisfyingly therapeutic watches in years. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Ashley Moulton Common Sense Media On its face, the concept of Is it Cake? is truly absurd: Can judges guess which object is made of cake and which is a real object? It seems impossible to build an entire show around this conceit, but somehow the result is a delightful change of pace. Rated: 3/5 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Rachel Leishman The Mary Sue Sure, it’s an internet meme turned into a reality show on Netflix but it doesn’t feel cheap in the way it could so easily be. Instead, it’s escapist fun when we need it most. Mar 25, 2022 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba It might have been watchable, but barely, if they’d limited each episode to 20 minutes or so, reconfigured the format completely, and spared Mikey Day from this humiliation, but at nearly 40 minutes an episode, Is It Cake? is both awful and interminable. Mar 25, 2022 Full Review Kevin Fallon The Daily Beast Someone thought, let’s make a show about this. And that’s what we have. We have Is This Cake? I will watch every episode. Shella A Excellent talents, great host, overall an entertaining show to watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/02/24 Full Review Tibor F Effortless fun, friendly competition. The host is absolutely hilarious. Loving it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Will S The concept of this show is really interesting and makes for a good watch. I also like the editing choices (in most cases) and also the way the show is set out. I especially like the fact they show you the contestants baking their cakes and the processes they go though. However, I do find the host to be quite obnoxious as an adult viewer. Maybe this is to appeal to children however I believe that if Mikey Day (who I'm sure is a nice person) dialled back the cringe worthy jokes (which often times aren't funny and fall flat on their face in an unsatisfying way) then this show would have way higher ratings. This would also be the case for my rating, but since the host plays such a large part in the series, it's hard to not put the series down for it, which sucks! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review Dan J The contestants and judges are okay but the host is absolutely lame and disgusting. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Kyel B I'm not sure, I like it but I get bored of it after a while Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/06/23 Full Review Wolfhunter OMEGA The jokes were just unbelievably terrible. The announcer of the show was just trying way too hard and just making the show an unpleasant experience. There are some scenes where the whole atmosphere just becomes un-watchable. For example: the judges jokes were just awful and sad, and quite frankly, disappointing. The baking was the best part of this Netflix show, I understand it's a kids show, I get it, but it's just unbearable for most of the time you're watching. It just turns into this whole calamity of sad jokes. If the show could improve the experience and could just stop being in your face, it would help a whole lot. Just put in maybe 2 to 3 jokes an episode and you have yourself a great show! It would definitely improve the viewership rates and make it so that it could be renewed for a 3rd season, this is my review. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
