What to Know

Critics Consensus

Living Biblically commits the cardinal TV sin of wasting the outline of an refreshingly unusual premise on broad, hammy acting and stock sitcom laughs.

Darren Franich Entertainment Weekly Living Biblically replaces Jacobs' playfully twisted tone with expired gags about the Jonas Bothers, Twilight, and Blockbuster Video. Like a lot of latter-day network sitcoms, Biblically overstretches its premise with too-familiar settings. Rated: C Feb 28, 2018 Full Review Ed Bark Uncle Barky Adapted from a bestseller that's not the Bible, Living Biblically finally comes to fruition as a CBS sitcom with an abominable laugh track. Rated: C+ Feb 27, 2018 Full Review Daniel Fienberg Hollywood Reporter Fails to follow the sitcom commandment, "Thou shall make us laugh." Feb 26, 2018 Full Review John Hanlon John Hanlon Reviews For a show that strives to be unique, this comedy still seems very safe. Rated: 2.0/4 Nov 20, 2018 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Go read Jacobs' book instead. You'll get a lot more laughs and have a better view of what it's like to live a biblical life. Apr 4, 2018 Full Review Megan Basham WORLD Given the open-minded, constructive start the show has already made, it's not unreasonable to hope it could continue onto some firmer (and hopefully a little funnier) ground. Audience Member Funny! Couldn’t stop laughing. Loved the characters and the message. Family friendly and refreshing. Well done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Binged watch the entire show one day whilst in a somber mood and honestly found the series engaging, uplifting and simplistically funny :) Whilst I’m very aware this isn’t the comedy show of the century, in some cases the awkward jokes that fell flat or the odd plot aided the show in becoming a show I’d definitely re watch on days I want to watch a stupid comedy show to raise my spirits. It’s a show where I don’t have to know everything to get it the joke and that even if its not ‘comedy genius’ even it’s purely unfunny moments, were so unfunny that they themselves became ‘funny’ :) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member could have been better Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review marie h luv this show makes me happy look forward to this every week Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Haven't laughed this much in a long time. Topics covered were relatable to anyone that has tried to apply the Bible to his/her life. Sad it was taken off the air, but not surprised. Most TV execs are only interested in pushing progressive shows. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I think it's well written and funny. Sadly... It won't make it to another season... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
