Based on the crime-novel series by author Caroline Graham, "Midsomer Murders" follows the efforts of Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby to solve crimes that occur in the wealthy, isolated English county of Midsomer, a picturesque and peaceful place on the outside but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices. His latest assistant is Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter. DCI Barnaby took over in series 14, replacing his older cousin, Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, who retired.

Dorothy Rabinowitz Wall Street Journal This series, so cluttered, so lacking in anything that could be taken for a touch of subtlety, is nonetheless a powerfully entertaining work. Nov 28, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Dagmar C Used to be a loyal viewer - but can no longer tolerate the actor playing John Barnaby - honestly I find him a giant bore - I tried to give him an honest chance (watching several seasons with him) but can't do it any longer. And the actress playing Fleur Perkins the pathologist - same - I can't think of a more unlikeable character - whereas all the previous ones were interesting and likeable. And the scripts have become boring and dumbed down. And to top it all off - lately the series are oozing political correctness. Goodby Midsommer Murders.... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Wonder why the English just sit in horror as someone creeps up to kill them. Most of the time there was ample opportunity to avoid it. The women always scream hysterically and the weapon of choice is usually a knife, a bludgeon or a pitchfork (occasionally a shotgun). Certainly a predictable culture portrayal but suggests villages are inbred to wide spread insanity. Enjoy the series despite that. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I like it. Moves a little better than with Nettles. I look forward to season 22. Actually I watch at least one old episode every night.
