What to Know

Critics Consensus

Carried by its charming cast, Modern Love sweet and simple sensibilities are easy enough to enjoy, even if its quaint portrait of modern life in New York City doesn't always ring true.

Nicole Abadee The Age (Australia) I found myself cheering each set of lovers on, hoping they could work it out. Watching it with my husband I felt a warm buzz of happiness at the end of each episode -- and there aren't many shows you can say that about. Jan 17, 2020 Full Review Linda Holmes NPR Modern Love really feels like it would have benefited from less tidiness, less ponderousness - maybe even, dare I say, a little less New York Times-iness. Dec 4, 2019 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times It's a pro job, though at times it feels professional in a Madison Avenue kind of way, as if you are being sold something, rather than told a story. Dec 4, 2019 Full Review Swetha Ramakrishnan Firstpost For every episode that gives you good ol' lurrve on a platter — there's an episode that explores the breakdown of a relationship and the complexity of ordinary life. Oct 9, 2023 Full Review Alex Flood NME (New Musical Express) For the most part though, Modern Love is an uplifting experience with more than enough 'aww' moments to keep you ploughing on through all eight episodes... Jul 14, 2021 Full Review Silvina Lamazares Clarín [An] exquisite series. [Full review in Spanish] Jan 21, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Brian H Terrific show. Does its job in revealing many facets and complications of relationships. Note: it's not a reasonable complaint to say that the show doesn't cover EVERY SINGLE type of relationship in the world, or that it doesn't dig into EVERY SINGLE facet of each person and each relationship. That's creating a false expectation of what can be accomplished in 8 30-minute episodes. The world would be a better place if people watched these episodes instead of only disney/rom com tropes. The show does its job, and does it well, what more can you ask for? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review John L I wish all the professional reviewers who panned this series (thankfully a self- infatuated minorirty) could just drop their cynicism and consider the intentions of this series, not the brilliance of it's exposition. It never pretends to be anything but stories of how love manifests itself in all its messiness and irregularities. Maybe a little humanity on their part rather than posturing would help them to see what audiences saw..... a lovely collection of human moments all culled from real life experiences which can touch us all. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/04/23 Full Review Audrey N Every episode feels like a different book or movie but they have one thing in common: love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review ciri_ r The episode with Dev Patel is absolutely the best one. He's such a great actor and the story is amazing. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review D P I'm 3 episodes in and it just keeps getting better. Season 1 episode 3 was about mental health and coping with it. It was so beautifully shot and told. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
