Dr. Max Goodwin is brilliant, charming -- and the new medical director at America's oldest public hospital. While he's set on tearing down the bureaucracy to provide exceptional care, the doctors and staff are not so sure. They've heard this before, and no one else has delivered on those promises. Not taking no for an answer, Max disrupts the status quo and proves he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital -- the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under one roof -- and return it to the glory that put it on the map. Inspired by Bellevue in New York City. Read More Read Less

Justine Kraemer Tell-Tale TV As the final season gets underway, the flaws in this show are more glaringly obvious than ever. Strange character choices combined with even more bizarre plot lines could all be forgiven if the show could find its way. Rated: 1.5/5 Sep 22, 2022 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Despite some cast turnover, it’s been reliably decent, even if it is shamelessly (and successfully) manipulative. Sep 21, 2022 Full Review Jasmine Blu TV Fanatic When it's good, it truly is good, and there were some solid moments that hinted at the lovely series that won our hearts and souls and garnered critical acclaim five years ago. katherine a The way helen left and just left a letter to max telling him all these beautiful words but why didnt she have the ovaries to tell him herself before she left now luna is asking for her and it breaks my heart to know that max cant even explain it to his 5 year old daughter people are selfish period. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/23 Full Review y y Episode 7: Iggy should grab the assailant's arms from behind the assailant and back the assailant away from the victim. Iggy is a psychiatrist. Iggy has had encounters with crazy patients misusing force. The alternative scenario used in the scene is dumb and the scene just keeps getting dumber after that first misstep. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Tristan C Absolutely loved this series, the story line in seasons 1-4 is tear-jerking and heart-warming and the medical cases in each episode keep things interesting. Unfortunately, Season 5 went downhill and, while I still enjoyed it, I found myself bewildered when suddenly Max is leaving the hospital with no buildup to this happening, after building a whole storyline around Max and Emily's complex relationship (already a controversial story line due to suddenly cutting Helen from the show at the end of season 4), the show decide to just cut off this story line too. Strange decisions were made in the plot here. However, still worth watching and this show would have 5 stars from me if it wasn't for the shabby plot line in season 5. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Derrick D This is one of the best shows I've ever seen Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review Natanel The 1st and the 2nd seasons of New Amsterdam were more than worth watching. (Watch out, spoilers:) The devastating car accident at the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2, Heartbreaking situations and dilemmas - and above all, an angel doctor who would do EVERYTHING for his patience. However, at the COVID season (Season 3) the show became more and more political. Accusing the "Anti-Vaxxers" for worsening the "pandemic" and almost for everything, Max trying to vaccinate every person even without caring for the reason why they don't want to until he finds out that even his own colleagues don't want to take the vaccine, lots of gender-related parts (Brunstetter transitioned from "she" to "he" and now insists that anyone will call him "he" instead of "she"), Lots of criticism on Capitalism and encouraging Socialism and Communism ("the Resistance of New Amsterdam" against the new medical director, Dr. Fuentes, which leads her to quit her position after many workers began to protest against her under the building - this was super unreliable - Who quits because of a protest? especially that quick?) I loved the old New Amsterdam, up to season 2. I loved Vijay Kapoor and I loved Iggy, I also loved Max and Helen. However, the politics ruined the series, and I'm not sure if it's on purpose, or it's just something that happened by accident, and no one were there to stop the destruction of this great show. I can't blame NBC for cancelling the show after 5 seasons, I can blame them for not doing that after the 2nd season. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/22/23 Full Review Sarah-Elizabeth Absolutely brilliant. Beautiful acting, writing, all of the above. This show is talking about issues no other show has, in such a mindful and powerful way. Ignore the reviews, jump in, the water is warm!
